Near Ouarzazate, me and @cobic have just met Czech cyclist Mirek and Slovenian cyclist Katya, who travel all around the world on their bicycles and live on the road and work as artists. I have introduced them to Mastodon and they are now @Cyclingnomads on our instance...

So if you want Cycling Nomads in Fediverse instead of just on Facebook, don't hesitate and follow @Cyclingnomads !

Meet Heliopeltis, one of Morocco’s strangest Devonian trilobites.

This 400-million-year-old critter had a small body, large eyes, and long spines. Scientists think its unusual body design indicates that this species floated on gentle ocean currents

Marrakech’s glory was built by generations of artisans. An appreciation, from a scholar who has studied their work:
“In the midst of narratives about caliphs and sultans, philosophers and poets, it can be easy to forget that the people who built these places often went unnamed in the historical texts.
But these artists will need support to maintain Marrakech’s history, to preserve the past for future historians to discover.” https://theconversation.com/marrakech-artisans-who-have-helped-rebuild-the-moroccan-city-before-are-among-those-hit-hard-in-the-earthquakes-devastation-213217

Earthquakes are difficult to predict and cannot be avoided. However, we can mitigate their impact. The best way to minimise earthquake damage is to improve seismic building design codes to withstand the highest possible seismic activity.

The earthquake was stronger and shallower than the Morocco earthquake and the quake is seeing hundreds of times more death.

A fair bit of our local sales tax in the goes to for and I don't want to hear a single peep of complaint about that. It really matters.

I don't blame Morocco one bit, they aren't especially wealthy and earthquakes like this are rare there. But I think the illustration is relevant.

We just had an earthquake. Never felt anything like it. No one knows what to do, all the hotel guests are milling about outside and we can’t see any staff. We’re OK but dare not go back in the building. Really, really scary, especially as Tom was on the other side of the grounds. We just had another little shake while I’m typing. According to Google it was only 5.7, thank god, but there were cracks and fallen plaster in our building. As I say, we’re OK, I just needed to express how scary this situation is
