Imagine being a venture company that believes it "protects democracy by finding and proving out projects that (a) have traction, (b) can scale, and (c) can produce votes much less expensively than existing methods."
Imagine the principal funding and advising a bunch of #Fediverse projects to advance his pissweak milquetoast liberal capitalism, er I mean dEmOcrAcy.
He's not the only one around looking to turn the place into the next big thing for the U.S Democratic Party electioneers. The others stay in the shadows like true democrats 🙄
"The most pernicious image of all is the anarchist hero figure. A creation of commodity culture, he allows us to buy into an inauthentic simulation of revolutionary praxis."
"When's the movie?"
"The hero encourages passive spectating and revolt becomes another product to be consumed."
A very clever friend suggested this question and I thought it was great:
Do you feel like your life experiences have crystalized and focused what you believed when you were younger? Basically, same beliefs, just better understood. Or have you radically changed as a person over time? My own addendum is if you feel like explaining why, I'm always curious to know!
@RickiTarr I always felt #capitalism's property/labor relations were off. The #capitalist somehow under-compensated #labor. I could not justify this #anticapitalist take until I read David Ellerman. His theory of inalienable rights clarified it for me. Labor is special as it is de facto responsible for production unlike capital, which is a dead tool. Labor should receive the property rights to what they produce because that is the only way legal and de facto responsibility match #anticapitalism
The last two general strikes in the United States both took place in Oakland, California—one in 1946 and the other on November 2, 2011, exactly twelve years ago.
You can read a comparative analysis here discussing how they can inform our anti-capitalist strategies today:
This is again sadly not surprising, eugenics and Social Darwinism has shaped and continues to shape the government response - or lack of - to the ongoing pandemic. It also demonstrates how central these ideologies are to capitalism.
Greetings. You may have heard of my website called helpstopcapitalism.neocities.org. Previously I deleted my account for personal reasons, but am returned to dedicate this account to my website.
Speaking of which, I've finally gotten around to adding the list of replacements for Social media sites like #reddit , #bandcamp , and #discord. I plan on adding even more later on, so feel free to give recommendations.
Just received this lovely photo revealing the German edition of 'The Anti-Capitalist Book Of Fashion' which is being published as 'Das antikapitalistische Buch der Mode' on the 23rd October 2023!
Cory Doctorow calls it "enshittification". I just call it capitalism.
Consider sites like Facebook, You Tube and Twitter. These sites are perfect examples of the capitalist in action. NONE of the content on these sites was produced by the site owners but ALL of it is exploited by them for profit.
And thats what capitalism is in a nutshell: an owner exploiting the work of a producer.
And, of course, when they aren't exploiting those who provide their site with content for enough profit then they'll always be eager to exploit them for more.
As a (re) #introduction on this new server, I have been on Mastodon for a few months (see previous post for why I have moved servers) after not using social media for most of the last 3 years. I wanted to connect with people on Mastodon - and through its decentralised, anarchistic ethos - with similar interests and beliefs, especially after becoming increasingly isolated through having #LongCovid since 2020 where I am now pretty much housebound, the difficulties I have had with communication because of my #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder alongside living in accordance to the scientific fact that #CovidIsNotOver and #CovidIsAirborne. In the brief time I have been on Mastodon I feel very lucky to have connected with the people I have, which has had a positive impact on my mental health and life. I look forward to building on these connections and also chatting with more people who are interested in things like #Anarchism#MutualAid#RadicalCommunalCare#Intersectionality#Veganism#StarTrek#DisabilityJustice#DisabilityActivism#AntiCapitalism#SciFi and #Sociology to name a few topics/interests!
I finished reading Less is More: How #degrowth will save the world by Jason Hickel this weekend, and figured I'd share my review here
By the first third of Less Is More I was ready to join an armed revolution. But I'm giving it 5 stars because it actually gave me some hope and belief in humanity again. Turns out it's not humans that there's something wrong with, but capitalism.
You don't have to be focused on any of the above topics, just have something interesting to say, and a decent webcam to record with (unless you live near #Portland and want to record an interview in person!) Bonus points if you're willing to appear nonsexually topless on screen with me, but definitely not required. I'm also happy to blur your face out or whatever else you need, if you want to keep your identity anonymous.
And if you'd like to check out previous interviews I've done, you can see them here: https://www.toplesstopics.org/interviews/ (please keep in mind some of these are really old when I was a lot worse at conducting interviews, I think they're better now 😅 )
