For the past 3 nights and yesterday afternoon, I've had a nose bleed out of my right nostril. Not gushing like a hit but a trickle. Luckily, it wakes me before I make a mess of pillows/sheets. 😳
I haven't been hit in the nose. No extra exertion or exercise to cause it. No previous issues with anything else other than the usual aches and pains of being old(er). No racing hereart rate or anything I can attribute it to.
Our medical centre has just put up some of its fees ($63 a visit) and introduced "Note that appointments running over time will be charged at $20 per 5 minutes, including for community services card holders. A standard appointment only allows 10 minutes of consultation and 5 minutes for your clinician to make notes. Only one item can be addressed safely in a standard consultation." (NZ$)
What sort of charges do you experience where ever you are in the world?
This is why #fat shaming can have tragic consequences.
If this sort of #weight-based #medical bias happens to any of y'all, politely tell the #doctor (during your visit) that you want them to write in your file that they are refusing ordering tests for you because of your current weight. This usually causes them to order the test anyways because they do NOT want a malpractice suit. Remember: You want to make a paper trail to hold them #accountable.
#Dinosaurs in #Doctor#Who, who would have guessed...
Lets take a look at what they show, and break down what we can see.
They say they are 150m years in the past, in #Wyoming
In this image we can clearly see a #Brachiosaurus.
As far as I know, its been found in #Colorado which is close enough for it to migrate there.
It also looks fairly accurate for a #Giraffatitan adjacent species.
"About 6.5Mil Canadians — roughly 1 in 6 — don't have access 2 prime medical care.
It’s a problem that puts their health @ greater risk & renders the entire public health-care system less efficient than it could be, both economically & in terms of the quality of care 4 every1.
In other words, if we can fix the shortage of family physicians, we can save lives & $$." #cdnpoli
A #Houston#hospital is investigating whether a #doctor altered a #transplant list to make his patients ineligible for care. A disproportionate number of them have died while waiting for new #organs.
Facebook groups can be toxic places - #FacebookReminds A day after my joint replacement #surgery, I couldn't lift my leg up when I was laying on my back. The #Doctor told me that the reason why I felt almost like paralyzed was in the #muscles that were not attached yet. I was able to walk with crutches but I could not lift my #leg in a certain position. What one person said to me on FB group? Every #Finn should have that much #sisu (guts) that you can lift one leg up. 🙄 #suomimastodon#finland
There is a poll on the Canadian Healthcare Network site asking doctors if it's ever ok to yell at patients. From the comments, I think it's safe to say that yelling is not the right thing to do, and that doctors are generally appalled by the idea.
Except with my mom. She was demanding, opinionated and her voice was loud. She often went to her doctors and wore them down demanding treatments and antibiotics for minor things they weren't really needed for. She ignored advice about her decades-long 2 to 3 pack a day smoking. I think her normal doctors were a little afraid of her and tiptoed around her.
Then, one day at the age of 80 she ended up in the ER, with breathing problems related to her smoking. The doctor there was the first to yell at her when she tried to pooh-pooh the damage he was pointing to on the x-ray. She burst into tears when he left, but she resolved then and there to quit on the spot saying he was right. She was one of those people who had more respect for people who stood up to her. And she did quit, cold turkey.
I wish someone in a white coat had yelled at her decades earlier. I was annoyed at all this, but not for the reason you might think. You see, I had bad asthma as kid and several hospitalizations. My doctors kept telling her to not smoke around me or in the house. She ignored them.
So, for her it worked. Though for most people a yelling #doctor is a terrible idea. She was an exception.
If you're a #doctor or in a related #health or #healthcare profession, consider following the group @medmastodon for news, etc.
The group could use more followers to become more effective. And use #MedMastodon in posts too for wider reach in that area. Also #IDmastodon for infectious #diseases.
Refused meds by GP who promised to prescribe until I found a new GP (he dropped me because my case is too complex). Changed his mind! Now have 17 days to find any doctor to write a script or #withdrawal agony for me & no #pain control.
Every time I go to the #doctor in #Denmark I’m always shocked at the difference between US #healthcare and EU healthcare in how stressed the doctor looks.
The last three times I went to a doctor in Chicago, every general practitioner I interacted with looked worked to death. Bags under their eyes, too busy to make eye contact with me. Just always typing on the computer and then leaving the room. Truly looked like the worst job on the planet.
Denmark I needed a doctors appointment. My primary doctors office is closed for training, so I got routed to another office. Same day appointment, go in and the doctor looks normal. We have 30 minutes, I use 20 of them, he doesn’t seem stressed or worried at all.
I pass by a group of doctors joking in a break room with some coffee and cake. It looks like a normal job. A lot is made of how bad the US system is for patients but you don’t realize how horrible it is for doctors until you see doctors allowed to be normal people.
Three women including me complained about a doctor at work. We complained at different times without knowing about each others complaints and all were similar. He acted like an arrogant white male who gave few avail internships to white male med students and would act buddy buddy like frat boi's, they were drunk on power. He is no longer allowed to hire staff and the white med students are not allowed to return. There is no room for chauvinism, no one job is safe. #doctor#hospital#health
has anybody ever received a #medical#diagnosis where the #doctor told you that your illness will likely cause a significant reduction in your #lifespan? Not that you are dying, but that you likely will not live to be an old person? How did you deal with this news? How do you handle that?
Doctor mistakenly operated on a kid's tongue instead of finger.
How can a doctor commit such a mistake. It's such a traumatic experience for the kid!!!
A Doctor operated on 4-year-old patient's tongue instead of her finger in Kerala and faced public uproar due to which he got suspended.
Our #doctor who we saw today is brilliant. We were so lucky to sign up with him when our previous one retired. He is a 45 minute drive away though.
Many people in our area, including seniors, can’t find a doctor still. The ones they can find only work half a day a week.
One doctor we tried to sign up with we had to book an appointment with the receptionist, then she made us wait 45 minutes just to get a form from her while she gossiped with a colleague.
"The #Medical Sector in #Gaza is not on the verge of collapse anymore, it has already collapsed,” a #Jordanian#doctor who recently returned from Gaza said.
The doctor Mohammad Amro was volunteering in a main hospital in war torn Gaza and said,”The situation there is #catastrophic.”
The #HospitalAppealBoard has found that Dr. Theresa Szezepaniak's #refusal of the shot in 2021 amounted to neglect of her obligations as a #hospitalist at #RoyalInlandHospital & the decision to take action on her privileges was appropriate.
If you're a #doctor who reads the Canadian Healthcare Network/#Medical Post, you might want to respond to this poll. Also, the comments are somewhat diverse.
The poll question is: Do physicians have an ethical obligation to mask up when seeing vulnerable patients?
