What a shit is. Someone registered an account with my email, and now I receive shitload of spam from them. I cannot remove that account, FB forms are not working and it seems the only way to delete that account is to PROVIDE scanned document of my ID, which will not match the said account and it’s my ID I don’t want to share with Facebook. Fuck you, Suckerberg. I hope you rot in agony along with your shitty scam company.🤡

There. I had to let it out.

I wish I never got exposed to any . I was a late adopter & it didn’t take me long to feel depressed because of all my friends faked charmed lives. Then I found out my overseas cousin, who I was fond of, turned out to be an annoying asshole. I had a friend stalk me around Facebook & comment to every post I made. After 3 years I dumped FB. In 2016 I was on Twitter when disgusting liar clown won & got fully addicted to all the depressing news. For what? I believe FOMO.

I am seeing people share things and news links intended to persuade or outrage people.

When I look to see what sources are cited, for corroboration, so on and so forth, there is nil. I've done this for roughly about 90% of the things I ran into via the the Explore tab, & I turned up nothing 60% of the time.

This makes me want to use less & less.

Another thing I realized yesterday is that I've been holding back on fully embracing Mastodon as my social media home. I've felt so burned by monetizing its users that my profile there is filled with fake info, and I rarely post there anymore...especially anything personal. I basically only keep the account around to check in on friends and family.

Here, I don't feel like a product; I feel comfortable opening up a bit more. It's been taking some adjustment, to say the least!

WordPress.com: Why Auto-Sharing Is Coming to an End

For WordPress.com and users, Twitter will no longer be part of Jetpack Social. However, we’re adding and very soon. In the meantime, auto-sharing to Tumblr, , and still works as expected, and you can continue sharing your blog post links on Twitter manually through their app or desktop site.

The idea here is that he'll get rent for the shop-fronts, while also getting a cut off all the transactions...

realcaseyrollins,

@unattributed That actually sounds like a good idea considering how much people use social media; but, we've never seen this done successfully because (both and have failed at this).

But, I was mostly referring to trying to become a home for articles. I doubt it will find a way to integrate them well; it's still a microblogging platform at heart, after all.

The idea of charging per article is pretty cool though.

A true revolution for independent media is available to you as a mere three-step process..."

aktivismoEstasMiaLuo,

@strypey It’s a good thesis; concisely written. In addition to the stated reason for avoiding , I suggest also linking to a page like RMS’s¹ which goes deep on the social issues. The “first: leave ” could improve using ideas from another page² in RMS’s playbook. 1. https://stallman.org/facebook.html 2. https://stallman.org/facebook-presence.html

aktivismoEstasMiaLuo,

@strypey I think some headway could be made on the way orgs compromise their & presence. When an org does not consider total twtr/fb abandonment as an option, a good middle ground is to get them to at least remove the twtr & fb links from their public facing websites. The essay simply suggests orgs stop using twtr as a “default” w/out detailing what that means.

Sure, they say it operates independently, but Musk must still retain significant influence and control through Twitter's stake. Moving from Twitter to Bluesky might seem like flipping off Musk, but is it really? Did moving from to make you feel like you just flipped off Zuckerberg?

Maybe this why Bsky is getting such a boost on birdsite right now. The goal was eventually to integrate it to Twitter (Verge reported).

Meanwhile, there is a true that is not built and controlled by billionaires.

Do these fucking mouth breathers call every online business a scam? Why is my business a “scam” but they’ll buy Trump NFTs?

Wheezing with laughter at Zuckerberg's inevitable pivot to AI and his attempt to pretend that's not what he's doing. "We have not stopped focusing on the metaverse, we were focused on AI the whole time" is literally what he's trying to go with, somebody come get your boy.

@seldo Zuck has proved time and time again, he has no ideas. His original Facebook was a copy of MySpace with some refinements that let it go viral. That’s it - full stop. After that, it has all been about acquisitions to grow his empire. His only other idea has been the MetaVerse which stubbornly refuses to take off. More than half of Meta employees have no understanding of what this is about and why he thinks it is going to change the world

I don't think people are realising the danger the Fediverse is in.

The only thing stopping corporations and VCs taking over this place is that the Fediverse is spread out on many different servers, which makes it very difficult to purchase.

If most of the Fediverse ends up on mastodon.social, which is now a strong possibility, there will be nothing to stop most of it being sold to Musk or Zuckerberg or whoever.

The bigger mastodon.social becomes, the more likely a buyout is to happen.

on point 1, People don't like to move. they pick something and try to stick with it. That's why many still use Facebook, regardless of all the scandals.
on point 2, wasn't a corporation at the beginning either.
I see many people say what if is sold to a corporation. But not about what if mastodon becomes a corporation, which is much more likely.
I don't think Eugene would sell Mastodon. He does however seem like a guy who turn it into another Facebook.
