Misskey Io, the official Misskey instance (which is suspended on some servers) is experiencing an influx of active users and new users. They had to close registrations because there is too many Japanese users looking for an alternative to Twitter.

They gained like 40k users in one day.

Ok, I'm very confused. 😕 I just looked at the API docs for misskey.io, which shows that the API is using ; however, 's says that REST is not used to interact with the . Can someone me out here, please? Maybe with a ? all in advance.

So why use ( Flavoured Markdown) and all of the animation power it provides (on eg)?

... Because where we're going ... we don't need words!

This was literally the top of my timeline just now (the actual animation goes on much longer than this):

5 second video (GIF) clip. Footage of a screen recording of Calckey, where the same post is being viewed twice (because of boosting). The post contains only emojis, including jellyfish, fish and cats, that have been animated to jiggle and float around the whole post window as though they are in an aquarium.

Is there an easy way to tell what software is running on a fediverse server?

I know Mastodon has the /api/v2/instance point.

How often do you check the local feed/timeline of your instance ?

Does anyone know where the docs for the /oauth/token endpoint are?

I tried to login to my little homemade client using my Calckey account. It gets to the permissions page, but on redirect back to my site I get an error.

I know Calckey is based on should I just look there instead?

A mi, me gusta .

Here is my (mostly accurate) list of the top sites, including controversial (albeit sadly legal) sites.

Too Long; Did Not Read:

👉🏾 variant sadly takes to the top spot
👉🏾 Mastodon dominates the list, but , & instances reach the top 30
👉🏾 Testing sites with fake accounts were not counted, but they are “inflating” the metrics (they should be ignored).
👉🏾 I also excluded a content scraper

Today, there's been lots of conversations about "Advertisements" in 's admin settings.

This feature has been available in for years. As we all know, Calckey is a fork of Misskey.

Now I don't know of a current Calckey server that displays ads. However, one unique difference between Calckey and Misskey is that people who use Calckey can opt out of them should they never want to see them.

Another important thing to know about advertisements on Calckey is that they don't federate. They're local to a server, and are not displayed elsewhere.

That said, just because this feature is called "Advertisements" doesn't mean it needs to be used for traditional ads.

One potential use could be for crowd-funding. Presently, most Fediverse servers don't have an easy way to direct their users to a crowdfunding platform. Calckey's advertisements function could be one way to alleviate this.

Another potential use could be for mutual aid. If a particular Calckey user falls on hard times, advertisements could be a way for the server to help them out financially.

Finally, another use for ads could be... ads! One big problem that the Fediverse currently has is that artists are having a hard time selling their artworks. Well, if those artists put up an ad, this is less of a problem.

That said, https://calckey.social does not display ads. We have no plans to display ads. The goal of this server is to let people try out Calckey, and to that end, ads distract from that purpose.

If you want to play with this feature yourselves, you can start up your own Calckey server and play with it.

In fact, why not play with Calckey's many, many interesting features on your own server?

Alternatively, if you just want to know what Advertisements look like in the admin control panel, see the screenshot posted below.

/* Put red border around images without ALT text */
.media img:not([alt]),
.media img[alt=""] {

The reality is, you always take a chance when contributing to an open source development or projects. Just because you made a contribution, does not mean you own the project or can decide the path that project takes. Those of us who donated understood the risk (or at least, I hope most people did).

That said, when someone takes a proactive driving stance claiming they will deliver, you kind of hope you can take them for their word. And expecting the main website to be online is not a big ask, especially when that serves as a gateway for people to learn about and use the project you are funding. That, after all, was the reason I donated.

What's the status of federation between Lemmy/KBin and Misskey/Sharkey/Firefish/Iceshrimp? I just tried loading several Lemmy and Kbin posts in Sharkey and it doesn't work. I remember having the same issue with Firefish, and I vaguely recall hearing awhile back it was something related to authorized fetch. Have their been any recent developments on that front?

-keine Traffickosten egal welche Richtung

-nur 3,79€ pro TB im Monat

-so viele Buckets, User, ACL wie man möchte

-keine Bandbreitenlimitierung.

So liebe Follower.

Today I learned there is a fork of Misskey called, Sharkey.

To quote the development:

"Sharkey is an upstream fork of Misskey that promises to deliver an improved feature set and UX across the board, with an emphasis on providing improved performance over other Misskey derivatives, our mission is to cohesive experience taking note of our communities feedback to better our software."

It looks like the made platform is soon to take over in the number of forks.

See: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/delightful-fediverse-apps/issues/47

As an myself, I'm happy to see that ideas, developers, and software from are going mainstream. There are a lot of things the West, and the world for that matter, can learn from Japan.

Not only from the Japanese, to be exact, even from made software. I talked about last year how created its own Internet culture that not even and can compete with. (See: 's amazing interconnected platforms; what Google would have been if they had a vision.)
