Kill it! Kill it with fire BEFORE they make it move faster.
Boston Dynamics is not helping those of us with robot-phobia when they make videos like this.
Don't lay it out like a corpse and then animate it's clanky-ass so it can flagrantly violate all the rules of movement our human brains are comfortable with.
Can we stop making robots look humanoid already? Make them look weird and machine-like; they’ll probably work better that way anyway. Making things that look humanoid yet violate the physical expectations applicable to humans is an insult to actual humans.
“Boston Dynamics’ new Atlas robot is a swiveling, shape-shifting nightmare”

「 The project called Legged Autonomous Surface Science in Analog Environments (LASSIE) is designed to teach the robot to adapt to its varying environment in real-time, with the goal of eventually having it traverse the surface of the Moon and perhaps even other worlds in our solar system 」
And besides, if you want to automate making burgers and fries, you would redesign the entire kitchen around a simpler system of automation, not create a gigantic ceiling-mounted robot arm that manipulates implements meant for human use.
Every modern Apple blockbuster has been relatively small and light, with close to zero moving parts:
iPhone
iPad
AirPods
Apple Watch
Relatively speaking, a home robot is massive, much more complex and fragile. Likely MUCH more expensive than the highest priced iPhone or even Vision Pro.
Such a beast would require a major commitment from the buyer, which means far fewer units sold.
Results of peristaltic pump trial: not so good. I think it's worth showing that failure happens. I already have some thoughts about what to do next.
Larger rollers = adequate suction, too much rotary resistance; smaller rollers = inadequate suction.
A more powerful motor could solve it, but the goal was to use the same as the syringe pump for comparison. My other options are softer tubing that squishes more easily, and ball bearings on all shafts. #robotics#3dprinting
