#LosAngeles Orders More Residential Hotels to Stop Renting to Tourists
Twenty-one #hotels have been cited so far. If the citations are enforced and upheld in court, hundreds of rooms could be turned back into low-cost permanent #housing for the city’s poorest residents.

The people who exploit Amish life as a tourist attraction have a target market: Christian Nationalists.
The Amish are deeply committed to pacifism: many went to jail as conscientious objectors to America’s wars -- and they won’t even sing the National Anthem.
But Amish Country souvenirs are covered in the Stars and Stripes, and include many tchotchkes featuring extreme gun rights slogans.
Allow me to gesture wildly at the last ten years' worth of academic research by the projects I worked for and the recommendations we made to the national tourism provider -- but which have so far been largely ignored following a fraction of initial interest in our work. And we weren't even the top of the iceberg.
It is getting increasingly frustrating when you have a lot of academics across several disciplines pointing out systemic problems, but being resolutely ignored because we're not "in the industry".
(And, no!, the answer is not to attract more tourists, but to make tourists pay more for a good product. Or we'll never dissociate tourism with low-income wages and housing poverty in Wales.)
Amsterdam's city council has decided to close a major cruise ship terminal in its centre in the latest measure to limit mass tourism in the Dutch capital.
"Polluting cruise ships are not in line with the sustainable ambitions of our city," said a statement from centre-right party D66, which runs the city with the social democrats PvdA and GroenLinks environmentalists.
"Convention organizers are pulling out of Florida, which is devastating knock-on tourism and causing panic over the future of the industry, experts warned in a report Friday.
When asked for a reason why they were scrapping plans, one organizer wrote simply: 'Governor DeSantis.'”

The Sphere, Las Vegas is truly a local landmark and icon. I’ve always felt that we had smaller versions of #venice or #paris or #newyork. This trip we saw “Postcards from The World” an immersive take on the world and it was spectacular. We also met Aura, the chatty #robot that answered all our questions. I am proud to say that now I feel that Las Vegas has a structure of its own that is truly unique. Not to say massive! #tourism#travel#photography#travelphotography

LOL that house is located in Puntarenas, which according to this article in PubMed:
"Puntarenas is one of the cities of Costa Rica where dengue was first reported in 1993 (Guzmán et al. 1998)....This city presents some of the common problems of many larger cities in Latin America: poor urban planning, high unemployment rates, poverty, poor solid waste management, among others (INEC 2002). Its urban and environmental conditions make this city an appropriate environment for the presence of A. aegypti and consequently dengue."
