I am sad to not be able to safely attend FOSDEM this year. There are so many people I want to spend time with.

However, as is the case with hundreds or maybe thousands of us past attendees, our immune systems can't handle the risk of such a crowded event that makes no effort to implement a health and safety plan.

Once again the "Fediforum" is back and once again missing the target with its supposed audience by ignoring feedback from last time, and insisting on using proprietary centralized tech for registration and charging fees for an online unconference.

If you want to build a successful, trusting, participatory community that doesn't center the privileged, don't take this approach.

If your event has unavoidable costs, make them clear. People will understand and do what they can.
