Today: workshop with lawyers at the @EU_Commission:

I'm following @beuc's #EHDS #ConsumerDebates online and I still fail to understand this:

Their representative polls found that "the further away from the GP, the less people are willing to share their #HealthData" and yet BEUC concludes that while data use by medical profl's should require #OptIn consent, for secondary use by #BigPharma and #BigTech an #OptOut option is enough. ❓❓❓

BEUC poll conclusions: 1. Respondents are very selective about the health data they are willing to share 2. |t depends on the entity and level of trust with whom they are ready to share health data 3. Respondents want to choose what happens to their health data and they prefer explicit consent 4. Different attitudes towards cross-border sharing of health data

I kind of knew the U.S. wasn't really a civilised country but today, thanks to @mekkaokereke's posts (go follow him!), I learned that in America cops can literally take away any amount of money or other assets you carry and keep it--without ever bringing any charges against you.

And only an expensive and lengthy legal process can bring some of it back to you. I mean seriously??

the fact that "Europe's first ever intelligent video system" is installed in a German region governed by the Green party @GrueneBundestag which is supposed to defend civil liberties.

Or the staggering certainty with which the engineer at thinks his surveillance wet dream of unlimited realtime knowledge about public spaces is somehow good.

The absence of a curating on has an (intended?) effect I only noticed since my newborn keeps me up at night:

Where rules the feed, I only ever see posts from my own (UTC+1) and adjacent .

Although I deliberately follow people elsewhere, like @CathyTuttle (based in UTC-8) or @nw (UTC+9), I hardly ever see their posts - except when my baby makes me scroll Mastodon at 3am in the morning. 😴

Does that mean it's impossible to build a global audience here?

While this and the fact that was ordered to stop doing this by November is good news, let's not forget that the company makes 2 billion EUR in net every month.

Belgian just forced a brown person in the seat in front of me off the - because he didn't bring his card. I think ID is required for crossing borders within but it's incredibly depressing that, as so often, they picked a non-white citizen for controls.

Interestingly, they also checked the white person in the adjacent seat but only for the train ticket, not the ID.

And then politicians in propose that social media platforms must remove user content flagged by authorities within 2 (!!!) hours when the country is "plagued by or social ". 😠 (1/2)
