Google search over the years:

1998-2016: Decent quality web search.

2016-2024: Mediocre web search dominated by SEO garbage and sponsored links.

2024-___: Whatever this is.

If you are an informed, intelligent, compassionate, in-any-way-science-literate person, how are you coping with living through these times? What's helping?

No snark, please. I'm interested in sincere, practical answers.

I went to Iceland in 2009. Spent lots of money to be driven in the dark for three hours, to fail to see the Northern Lights.

I went to Iceland in 2023. Spent even more money to have my entire family driven in the dark for three hours, to fail to see the Northern Lights.

Everyone who is currently posting pictures of the Northern Lights from their back bedroom in Southend can fuck right off so far as I’m concerned.

Starmer's strategy so far has been nothing short of masterly. Refusing to fight on enemy terms, emasculating attacks by deliberate mirroring of some policies. Taking away ammunition from the Tory press. Sun Tzu is quietly applauding somewhere. Maybe not so quietly, come to think of it.

In case it bears repeating: protesting Netanyahu's government or his cabinet's decisions is NOT antisemitism, nor is it anti-Zionism. Plenty of Zionists, Jews, and Israelis have been protesting his policies before the war. Netanyahu and his messianic government do not have a monopoly over Zionism and conflating his actions with Zionism and protesting his policies in the name of anti-Zionism only serves his political purpose.

Denying Jewish students access to campus? THAT'S antisemitism.

I think we're focused on the wrong thing when we look at what tech works for a company like Amazon or Facebook or Netflix.

We should be looking at what tech works when you don't have a small army of staff engineers optimizing it. I want to know what I can scale without paying someone a half million dollar salary to do it.

There should be more case studies on things that don't have a billion-dollar company propping them up, humming along quietly on a cheap-ass VPS somewhere.
