I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:

Flo Mask is having a sale this weekend, 15% off with the code KEVSTURNING45. They also have the decorative front covers available forever, when they were originally going to just be a limited run. I get compliments on my cherry blossom one sometimes!

Wow, people really don't like iTerm2 adding an optional AI integration which requires you to enter your OpenAI key to use, calling it "no longer fit for purpose", etc.

Someone pointed out that this feature is optional and not only has to be enabled, but it requires you to enter a key to use. That user was, apparently, reported on gitlab and is now blocked.

https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/issues/11470

It reminds me a bit of how some people don't like "algorithms", as in https://x.com/danluu/status/983466330320965632.

@danluu I do not want to use a product by a company which does business with OpenAI. What the product actually does is a separate concern.

yeah moss is great but how about a vascular plant that has basically ... gone back to the way of the moss...

Azorella compacta

It's... it's a carrot that has given up on having leaves...

Imagine a hostile planet with plants like this... could you tell that they once grew in less cold and arid climates? What if flora of the twilight days of a planet look like the earliest life... but when you look closer there are abilities, and structures that tell their history....

It looks exactly like a tuft of green moss.

Folk might be interested to know that across the month of May, Sustainable Fashion Week’s campaign invites people to mend one piece of clothing, celebrating repair as an act of empowerment.

I think I'll have a go at my pile. If anyone wants to share mending projects or pics, that'd be lovely.

The stats for why is great are pretty compelling:

Today is the anniversary of the MOVE bombing. The only thing that’s changed is police are far more militarized, far more funded, and far less accountable, while their supporters fly a desecrated flag to explicitly endorse their violent attacks.

Bike parking — followed by outdoor dining — generates the most revenue for local businesses, nearly double the amount generated from on-street private car storage 👏

We need to inform local businesses of these facts, but also need SFMTA to make quick decisions based off of them.

At my in-laws’ house getting started on the long process of clearing it out. Found this gem from 1998 being used as a monitor stand. It’s about 2.5” (65mm) thick and holds dozens of literal bookmarks.

Side view to give some sense of scale to just how thick the book is.
Dozens of bookmarks visible along the top edge.

In Philadelphia – the poorest major city in the U.S. – the minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25 per hour for the past 15 years.

It’s not that Philadelphians haven’t tried to change things – but they consistently face pushback from the state legislature.

Anybody know of (ideally mobile-friendly) FOSS forum software (besides mailing lists) that doesn’t have a copyright-granting CLA or open-core model? Discourse, Flarum, and Nodebb require a CLA.

I’m aware of phpBB and bbj (read-only web UIs are available; no read-write web UIs).
