This is some pure gold. They went from Serverless to a simple container deployment and saved a ton of money and the "they" is !

Every paragraph is zing after zing here - an Amazon engineer advises not using "serverless" in production!

Amazon joins Trader Joe’s, SpaceX in calling the National Labor Relations Board unconstitutional

Nazi's are mainstream again. Now, they are trying to reboot the Gilded Ages. How far back do these people want to take society. The Ice Age?

“Since they can’t defeat successful union organizing, they now want to just destroy the whole process," said an attorney representing the Amazon Labor Union. .

plan to launch tens of thousands of new satellites. Experts are working hard to ensure this doesn't lead to a disaster that ends human access to orbit.

by Dave Mosher, Dec 27, 2019

", , , and reportedly even plan to collectively launch tens of thousands of internet-beaming over the next decade.

"SpaceX, founded by , has the most ambitious plans with approval from the US government to launch nearly 12,000 of its satellites — though it's seeking permission to launch a total of 42,000.

"Though Musk said Starlink satellites have collision-avoidance systems, one came relatively close to smashing into a European satellite in September [2019].

"The likelihood of satellite collisions and dangerous space debris will go up as more spacecraft are launched. Militaries that destroy satellites during tests or wars will make the problem even worse.

"Experts worry that debris orbiting Earth could lead to a '' domino effect that cuts off human access to for hundreds or even thousands of years."

‘It’s totally unhinged’: is the book world turning against Goodreads? https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/dec/18/goodreads-review-bombing

I hate Goodreads. The site is just a continuation of Amazon as a surveillance capitalist nightmare, one that's never updated. Bugs are rife.

I prefer Bookwyrm and The StoryGraph:

Anyone any clues what to say to to get an OTP number changed. For some reason they don't call or SMS either number so I cannot login. They seem very bad at coping with that sort of thing. Been trying for days to get them to do something, and no joy. Any magic words people can suggest?

Update: Lot of work - sorted at last.

This shocking #photography was obtained from #Montana (#USA) over 17 minutes. It reveals the crazy number of #satellites orbiting the #Earth. Most of them are #StarLink (from #SpaceX / #Musk) and aim at providing internet to some remote places.

StarLink is not the only project for space-based #internet: there are also #Kuiper (#Amazon), #oneWeb, #Iris2 (@EU_Commission), etc... which will send even more satellites into #space

Avoiding as the warehouse to get everything, I'm exploring small online shops more.

But one thing truly stands out:

PayPal makes the shopping experience so much more bearable than, well, before PayPal was as big a thing 15--20 years ago.

No need to enter shipping address or payment details anywhere. So it's truly one-click shopping. Plus five more clicks to finish the process, of course.

I wonder what the PayPal stock price over the years wants to tell me, though.

When you think , the image that comes to mind should be .

"Amazon now makes up about 40% of all online retail — the company started raising prices on the products it sells directly."

"Nearly 50% of sellers' revenue goes to Amazon in fees," much of which is passed on as higher prices.

This is a prime example of Monopoly rent as Corey Doctorow, @pluralistic, discussed in a recent piece.
