Hey ,

Is anyone out there using FOSS for accounting?

I'm struggling with Quickbooks desktop (which you can only get as a subscription now, unless you pay four figures for an enterprise license).

comes highly recommended to me, but I'm loathe to go "" for accounting. Very loathe indeed.

?

Edit: Thanks for all of the feedback so far, updates and clarification following in a reply...

As a tech enthusiast I'm on my way to buy my first iPhone ever. Before doing this I have two questions.

  1. Which iPhone is the best and why? (if you have all the money in the world, what model would you choose now?)

  2. What are the things you DON'T like in your iPhone and how are you coping with them?

Please answer only if you prefer iPhone, I don't need "don't buy an iPhone" or "Device X is better" -replies. I've been using two decades other mobile devices so I kinda know the differences.

Is there a way to automate opening a bunch of frequently used SSH sessions all at once on a Linux based workstation? I'd like to type a single command and wind up with a single terminal window having three tabs.

  • Tab 1 would be labeled "web-logs" and would [upon connection] have a "tail -F" of my nginx logs.

  • Tab 2 would be labeled "mail-logs" and would [upon connection] have a "tail -F" of my postfix logs.

  • Tab 3 would be labeled "lily" and would have a typical interactive session to my minetest server.

I am currently using Asbru Connection Manager which works great, but I'd like to think I could do this with a simple terminal window. Am I wrong?

I want to buy a smart plug that:

  • actually does not use any cloud service
  • works nice with Home Assistant
  • measures power usage

Any suggestions?

Looking for #boardgame recommendations!

My wife and I are casual players, and I’m considering getting a new, 2-player game. Here’s some extra info that may help with your suggestions:

  • More than two people could play it at a time, but only if it’s well-balanced for two. Something you would enjoy playing with a significant other.

  • We own these games, and we like them a lot: Jaipur, Splendor + Expansion, 7 wonders duel + Expansions, and Lost Cities (Card Game ed).

  • Recommendation could be within the same mechanics as the games mentioned above; anything different would be a plus.

Thanks for being awesome, and I’m looking forward to see your suggestions!

I need to convert to and I'm looking for a tool to do that.

The output should

• preserve line breaks in paragraphs
• not contain additional, unnecessary linebreaks (e.g. 4 empty lines between paragraphs)
• be configurable (e.g. whether to use * or _ for emphasis, or * vs - for unordered lists)
• if possible, allow me to hook into details (e.g. to convert <pre class="shell"> to ```sh)

or . Alternatively, what's a really configurable prettifier?

A question for women of fedi!

I’m working with an organization of professional women who want our trans sisters to know they will be welcome and accepted in the group.

What’s the best way to do this in our media when having events, etc?

Because my brain goes “trans women are women, of course they’re welcome!” but I know that isn’t always the case and want to allay any concerns folks might have about joining.

Are there ways you’ve found to indicate while not othering?

I hit it with tons of flux, and applied tip tinner and solder several times.

Solder still beads up on it. Isn't it supposed to get coated nicely with solder? It's been a long time since I soldered.

Hallo Fediverse!

Insbesondere Friendica, Firefish und v.a.

Wenn Ihr also Anregungen oder Ergänzungen habt, gerne her damit! Danke!

Font supports Japanese, I also have Japanese IME.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hey ,

Wondering if any or gurus know of a utility to find similar images or generate a hash from image content (and not just raw data).

I'm trying to de-duplicate some images, but realized some have been renamed AND re-compressed, so there's no easy way to find and eliminate the dupes

I've already done deduping based on sha512sum, but that doesn't help when the image has been recompressed.

Question for the wider and community:

What bothers you about data analytics for your Fediverse posts? The general sentiment on here seems to be that no data processing / recording is okay and that any analytics tool should be opt-in.

I am not necessarily disagreeing, but I don't fully understand the mindset. To me, if I am posting anything publicly (versus followers only) then I don't mind anybody analyzing that. I chose to post publicly.

I need one with:

  1. Great #driver support (maybe get that webcam working finally)

  2. Smooth & slick #UX / #UI (I'm less of a terminal guy)

  3. Focus on #security, security-first approach (but not the ones that are made for James Bond)

What do you suggest? #AskFedi
