We need at leasst 17 more people using the #BikeNite hashtag (on public posts) to have a shot of trending.
Why do I care? Because Mastodon isn't the greatest for discoverability. I think BikeNite is a cool community and I would like to see more cyclists able to find us and participate in this a/synchronous weekly structured chat. @mastobikes@fedibikes@bikenite#Cycling#BikeTooter#fahrrad
It is with great sadness that I announce: all the bicycles in my building have been taken. Including my two beloved, wonderful, retro steel bikes. I’m in shock obviously but I also feel calm (not my first rodeo). I’m very glad I had the opportunity to build and ride such nice bikes. If you see a vintage Rivendell and a Soma MTB, please let me know.
Spotted in downtown Kitchener: a foot rest and handrail for cyclists stopped at the intersection of Water Street and Duke Street. Let’s see more of these!
The IL supreme court has ruled that Chicago is not liable for lack of maintenance leading to a pothole that seriously injured a cyclist because the road he was on did not have signs or bike lanes indicating it was a bike route, so he was a “permitted" but not “intended" road user.
I've posted this before, but it can always be repeated. In NYC from 2008-2021 the number of deaths caused by a cyclist hitting a pedestrian averaged less than 1 per year (the mode was 0!).
Cyclists are not a major cause of pedestrian fatalities. Until drivers (and society as a whole) get their house in order they shouldn't be pointing fingers. And no I don't care about your anecdote about eBikes.
"The priority should not be to replace every car with its electric equivalent but rather to rethink #mobility in general.
"Placing so much focus on the automobile and even now the electric automobile is not the way that we solve our mobility problems, but rather it's time to invest in #transit, in #cycling, in walkable cities, to get people out of #cars altogether," they said."
Someone saw it at a flea market at Oakland. Lucky for me he was a bike person. He decided to buy it and try to find me. He figured he would have a nice bike for cheap if he didn’t succeed. But we found each other relatively easily and I got my bike back almost 6 months after it was stolen from my garage.
NHTSA is finally considering updating safety scores for vehicles to take into account danger to pedestrians outside the vehicle. But their proposal could be a lot better. Here's an easy way to send a comment on the upcoming regulation: (comment closes July 25)
Sad morning. After returning a day early from a smoky, wet paddling trip. I was awoken at 0645 hours by the cops to tell me that someone had broken into my vehicle. The culprits found the only valuable item that was in the car: my gorgeous #TernBike. I really hope that the fact that it's one-of-a-kind around town will work in my favour in this case. In the meantime, I won't be going out on #GroupRides for awhile. #BikeTooter, #YEG
Last Sunday, I participated in my city's Fancy Women Bike Ride. I made a short video on what I experienced and some of my thoughts on why such rides are important.
