Released version 0.13.2 of today:

https://github.com/teleclimber/Dropserver/releases/tag/v0.13.2

It adds an HTTP proxy to the sandbox as a starting point to monitor outbound requests from the app.

It fixes some leaking file descriptors and goroutines which caused problems for long-running instances.

Lots of code cleanup to clear the path for the next things I'll work on.

It's bad enough that stiffs you more than 10% for cash transfers (a particular bugbear for us writers), but they're now also going to enshittify the whole process, selling our personal data to boot.

Which raises the question - why isn't there a #`FOSS equivalent of PayPal? Is it possible?

@alexanderhay There is some hope in GNU Taler https://taler.net/en/features.html afaik it's been piloted in some parts of Switzerland and they are aiming to get license for Euro transfers around 2025. There are some good talks on CCC https://media.ccc.de/search/?q=gnu+taler maybe this one is nice non-technical starter https://media.ccc.de/v/camp2023-57253-do_we_need_taler_or_does_taler_need_us into it.

is over, time to pursue new projects. Thanks for the incredible 15 votes we got for our song! Also, we are very grateful to the organizers, giving us this wonderful event once a year!
It was a lot of fun, both as artist and as listener; especially the love, spirit and community of it all. See you next round!

I can help with but obviously any income should go to the original maintainers not to me because I created a fork!

Same applies to other projects, should we stop this?! ?

Feeling any software-related FOMO leave my body as Adobe threatens to sue users for using old versions of their programs, more triple-A games add kernel-level spyware for their games, and Windows continues to bog down the entire system with ads and anti-consumer lock-in.

There's nothing on Windows that I want on Linux anymore :meowdab: FOSS all the way, baby.

(Except I still wish Steam VR wasn't trash in Linux :meowpout: )

Short of checking their hardware support against a specific laptop model, I'd just say thinkpad is generally a safer bet than acer.

If you don't mind refurbished laptops, you can buy openbsd preinstalled... https://minifree.org/

This post alleging extortion from CloudFlare¹ is plausible/cautionary. Market monopolies/tech mono-cultures suck so it's tempting to just be outraged at CF.

However, we allow this when we cede control to third parties (not just cloud) without mitigation plans, by NOT:

  • using open standards/formats
  • separating concerns
  • staffing expertise in-house/independent long-term partners
  • balancing risk with cost

Let's have that bigger talk!

Why, oh why, does the NZ gov't continuously get bamboozled into making shitty web-based systems that are 100% dependent on proprietary Microsoft technologies? Yes, 'new' DOC booking system, I'm looking 🤔 at you.

It'll perform poorly, cost a bomb, scale ungracefully, and be very expensive to maintain... until Microsoft suddenly end-of-lifes the technologies on which it depends. At which point the taxpayer will bail you out (again).

@puck @carl_klitscher @stephen yup. I actually reckon it's absurd that our gov't is buying any proprietary software. The EU, though very slow to change its ways, has started - have you all seen this? https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/study-about-impact-open-source-software-and-hardware-technological-independence-competitiveness-and It suggests that the EU is decades behind North America in IT... mostly because it hasn't fostered / development.
