Bees (that are not our bees) took over the shed. My daughter (a beekeeper) had to remove them. As she was working, a small child passing on a trike looked terrified and shouted 'Bee Men!'.

Bee women too, my little Dude. Bee women too.

As always, whenever I try to do anything outside, Zoey wants to get right in the middle of it. 🙄 I was oiling a new queen excluder and two new deep supers for the second new .

Have you heard of the waggle dance? It’s how bees communicate the location of a pollen/nectar source. And it’s really cute. 🐝🐝🐝

Close up of bees on comb in the observation hive. One is doing the waggle dance which is a figure eight with a wiggle thrown in to tell the others where to find the pollen/nectar source.

Flir thermal images of the blue swarm hive, this is the thermal impression of what a healthy hive looks like. Very cool gadget!

Thermal image of the corner of the hive, with lighter orange and yellow showing where the heat from the cluster is.

New comb on the front frame: on the left is honey and pollen, the middle is mostly worker brood with a few larger drone cells, and the newest comb on the right is all larger drone comb which the queen started laying in today 🐝🐝🐝✨

New comb in plastic square frame dividers on the front frame of the observation hive. Bees are busy working on all of it.

For my international audience (because i can't believe my audience could have missed this).

After the recent demonstations there has been a popularisation of the meme. People from all walks of live appropriate symbols from their lived experience and combine it with the antifascist logo for something amusing. Here are some samples with alt-texts providing a translation/explanation. A thread 🧵1/10 :

red, green that's not so clear - colourblindness antifa
NYANYANYANYANYANYANYA - NYANYANYANYANYA Antifa

Fun Fact.

is f*cking up the Environment and Pushing Wild Bees to the Edge.

Keeping honeybees doesn’t save bees – or the environment
It’s great to see people backing the pollinator movement, but managing hives does nothing to protect our wild pollinators. It’s the equivalent of farming chickens to save wild birds

Our first Autumn with a beehive. Lots of learning has culminated in our first honey harvest. The bees have done their thing despite our bumbling efforts. Up next: learning to make mead!

Can people here offer some advice or suggest some resources to get started? My late grandpa had several hives some years ago and I would like to give it a shot.
I could have a hive or two at an allotment garden or a balcony, both at suburbs but with a fair amount of greenery and flowers. Thankful for any advice!

Bee swarm scouting party hitting an empty box right now in my backyard. Either a swarm imminent at 4pm or there will be one tomorrow. #beekeeping

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME YOU CAN WAX BICYCLE CHAINS WITH BEESWAX?!?!

(yes, yes... I'm a beekeeper).

Bees appear to have noticed that the heat has let up. Production has increased. Babies look good. No sign of swarming, but signs of a possible insurrection coming. TONS of beetles on the swiffer pads. Looks to be a good fall harvest.

Windy and cold, didn't think we'd be doing a swarm capture today, LOL.

Filled the bee water up and they quickly show up.

While reviewing a couple of hours of video from today, I did see some bees leave and the same or others come back. Maybe the new sign above the entrance is helping or it's just nurse bees assigned to foraging so they don't have a clue where home is and actually pay attention to the entrance.

A sped up video showing a small cap for giving water to the bees being refilled with water and then bees showing up to drink it. There is a single bee circling inside of it looking for any missed drops as the video starts.
