Oh absolutely. #Calckey has a rapid dev cycle, and is incredibly feature rich, designed by and administered by people who know #Fediverse inside out. I was only writing from a personal hosting perspective. #Calckey is the future. Just wait for a year.
@llewelly@fediversenews Except that #Calckey was never based on Mastodon in the first place, but on #Misskey, which is a separately developed microblog service than Mastodon, even if one based on #ActivityPub and, as such compatible with the whole of the #Fediverse, Mastodon include.
That said, the Calckey team IS working on adding a #MastodonAPI compatibility layer to their webapp, but right now very little of it is supported. (Thanks @atomicpoet for that info, by the way. 😉)
I have an announcement for all Sakurajima (.moe and .social), Urusai.social, and Miruku.cafe users!
I just learned something that every #fediverse citizen user should know: When looking at a post or profile from an external instance that is not using the same platform as your instance, you should look at that post or profile on that instance. The reason why that is so important to know is because that not all instances will not display the complete post or profile of an external instance.
I learned this earlier today while discussing a few bugs with @panos and @naskya, mainly about reactions not going through.
I wanted to let everyone know about this because this is very important, especially since we're on different platforms: Urusai.social and Sakurajima.moe use glitch-soc (a variation of #Mastodon), meanwhile Sakurajima.moe and Miruku.cafe use #Calckey and #Foundkey (both variations of #Misskey) respectively. With everyone using different platforms and thinking that #ActivityPub would transfer everything over, there's bound to be misunderstandings.
That's why I wanted to let everyone know about this. #ThankYou all.
I’ve taken to referring to this Fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey, Friendica, etc.) as the “ActivityPub Fediverse” to differentiate it from the fediverse that will eventually arise from the AT Protocol, which I guess would be the “AT Fediverse,” or something like that.
Don't worry - I'm not going to stop posting said content here. Not that I think you were too worried, but just in case :blobnook:
And at the moment I'm not planning on doing that here - one personal #Mastodon account is enough for me. This is a multi-fandom geek Dad account!
But, I wonder how y'all feel about making separate, niche accounts for your fandoms. I know that happens on Instagram, but wasn't sure if people were doing that in the #Fediverse too.
So apparently there's a new kid on the #fediverse microblogging block called #calckey. There is some hype over it on my feed at least. Truth be told it looks real slick. But....
What is up with that name? It conjures up the image of a dusty windows 95 calculator program. And the mascot is a blue duck-looking-thing smoking a poorly photoshopped doobie and kinda looking like it is giving you the finger. It is absurd and I am confused, but slightly intrigued too!

Is the end game of the internet just slurped-up & regurgitated content from not-very-clever AI?
Meanwhile, folks are up in arms over the “rise” of Jack Dorsey’s #Bluesky (even though Bluesky’s been around for years) as well as Mastodon’s mobile apps nudging people to onboard via the Mastodon.social instance. Should we be concerned about imminent centralization of decentralized social networking & the #Fediverse?
I started working on the Netizen’s Guide to Mastodon and the Fediverse exactly two months and a day ago. It's been a fun way to learn more about the diverse fediverse community. Go check it out if you haven't seen it in a while, plenty of new polls!
Posted in German this morning, that surely many people are leaving #Mastodon early after signing up because the Web-UI doesn't really look nice.
That's why I would suggest telling every newcomer not only to try out other mobile-apps, but also web-apps like #Elk, #Phanpy, #Trunks and more (see the screenshots). In addition, one could also look at other services in the #Fediverse, I especially like #Calckey.
Periodically see some gloominess about the #Fediverse so I thought it was important to share this reminder from @nolan about where we started. We can never repeat those first days but we can stay true to their values.
The increasing attacks in Bangladesh on journalists and others exercising their right to freely criticize government policies and practices, is alarming, eight independent organizations said today on World Press Freedom Day. The widespread restrictions on freedom of expression undermine the conditions for open political debate ahead of elections, scheduled for January 2024.
If you're gonna update or build a new #Fediverse Android, desktop, or iOS app for these other platforms, like #Calckey or Friendica or Peertube or otherwise, you should build with #Accessibility in mind because this is why #Mastodon is popular with us Blind and VI users and this is also why we are not trying other parts of the Fediverse. If you're working on Accessibility, shout it loud and proud! @fediversenews#Mastodon
I just want to give a shout-out to @mike for creating the wonderful #MastoFind.
It enables you to discover personalities on Mastodon and become discovered by verifying and listing your profile. By listing and verifying your profile on Mastofind, you extend your social network by allowing friends, family, and colleagues to discover your verified identity across the #Fediverse.
Good morning and happy Wednesday you wonderful #Mastodonians.
Let’s grab a #KoffeeWithKyle and discuss our plans for today. Let me know in the comments.
For me, per usual, just a regular day up til 6pm CST. After that, I gonna try to work on some more custom emojis for #AllThingsTech for our community to use. All start getting our Wiki setup. After that, TV and relax time.
Who are the moderators? How are they protected? How are they compensated?
These are some of the questions on the forefront of my mind when people clamor for better moderation in the #fediverse, particularly on the largest @mastodono instances.
#ModerationIS emotionally dangerous work and it should be treated as such. We shouldn’t protect people in the Global North only to endanger people in the Global South.
Introducing Fediverse 201, a new series in which I take a deeper dive in all the other cool products and services on the fediverse that go beyond microblogging, and talk to the creators about their product.
In this first edition: Owncast!
#owncast is a free and open source live video streaming server, that can also connect to the rest of the #fediverse in a variety of ways.
