Watched this great video about the feeling of "the sublime" (awe mixed with fear) in #VideoGames. Here they discuss it in #Subnautica & #TheLongDark. Makes me realize that this is that je-ne-sais-quoi that I really look for in #games. 🤩
Meme-Free Zone And Other Lies by Marcus L. Rowland: "Warehouse 23 will no longer be distributing e-text gamebooks from some smaller companies and authors including me"
Several of you are fans of roguelikes and are game devs, and some may already be involved with the Roguelike Celebration that @roguelike_con does. I'm on the mailing list and I just wanted to share the attached images with the info for submitting your roguelike for the Steam event they're doing from October 19-26.
I see #Diablo4 is free over the weekend. I don't often see eye-to-eye with #Reddit, but these comments mirror my feelings. It's amazing how much Blizzard have eroded my trust which is amazing because D1 and D2 are amongst my favourite games of all time. Good job, idiots.

In slideshow adventure games, the player clicks to move between scenes. "Distance between" is shown by how many scenes you need to mouse through. The connectedness comes from being in Scene A to get to Scene B.
In modern games, the joystick or keyboard is used instead. The distance is literal seconds of travel walking.
Are there other ways to express this "feeling" of travel time and interconnected "A leads to B"? In particular focused on more accessible travel?
As I’ve been playing all these old games on the RG35XX I’m learning what kind of games I like. Games where I have to fight? No thanks. Games where I have to run around and find things and avoid obstacles? Much better. (Sort of like real life I guess!) I look forward to learning more about myself on this journey.
In recent years, I've noticed a big rise in #CozyGames or #WholesomeGames, especially in the #indie scene. There are a lot of really good ones, and It's actually become one of my favorite genres of game. It seems like a pretty new thing, with games like Stardew Valley, A Short Hike, and Untitled Goose Game feeling really fresh and almost coming out of nowhere; but, I can't help but wonder--how new is the concept really?
Besides Harvest Moon (Stardew's inspo), are there any other #RetroGames that would fit into this genre today? 🤔
What are you playing? (Week of July 9th through the July 15th)
