Streaming music is a great way to discover new music, but if you want indie artists to have the time, money, & emotional support needed to continue making new music, you need to purchase their music outright.
This is the last check I got from my distributor for all streaming royalties for the past 3 years. It’s “sandwich money” as Weird Al would say.
Any #classicalMusicians out here on the fediverse? Would love to connect! Classical Twitter still seems mostly on Twitter.
I'm a Montréal-based amateur cellist & #composer. I also play flute, voice, and dabbling in guitar, recorder, melodica, and others. Lots of #Baroque and #RomanticMusic, trying to discover more #NewMusic.
I'm always looking for more gender-marginalised, #queer and #BIPOC representation in classical music!
My Ephemera album was released one year ago, on Nov. 8, 2022, and to celebrate the album’s first anniversary of being out in the world, I’m thrilled to present these remixes by artists from Vancouver, Germany and Scotland.
If you're a new/recent follower, hello! Welcome to my feed. I hope you like #independent#music (especially #ElectronicMusic!) recommendations, discussions about the #life of a #musician, music-related #shitposts and the occasional smattering of leftist (pro labor, pro justice, pro human rights, anti racist, anti police, anti fascist) politics.
I'm a good follow if you're looking for #NewMusic or if you're a musician making new music. If you're both, well...
I've heard some grumbling here and there about how everyone is a solo artist or duo now, and what happened to bands. Here's what happened:
For awhile, entrepreneurial up-and-coming acts could earn a living wage through a combination of touring and record sales. Since everyone got a Spotify subscription, record sales disappeared. Touring with 5 peeps is EXPENSIVE. Costs must be cut.
If you love #NewMusic and want to see a healthy ecosystem, buy albums.
So I wrote Stupid in my late teens and would play it on occasion in company. The usual first response is "You don't actually think you're stupid, do you?"
I didn't really know how to respond to that. The song is about myself, yes, but I don't think I'm stupid... most of the time. Because, sometimes I was made to feel stupid, because I'd forget stuff, or be absent minded. In fact, all the verses are about how others sometimes made me feel. I didn't know it at the time - it was decades later that I made the connection - that I was writing about ADHD.... I assume... I've never gone and got diagnosed. Anyway, shut up, I'm not stupid. Here's my song I just re-recorded. If this was a new song, I'd wait till it was released before tooting it, but an old, terrible version has been up on Soundcloud for over two years. It's gone now, and this is the new updated version. I'll have to pick a date in February to release it to all the streamy places.
Edit: Date picked. Stupid will go live on all the other streamy places on the 16th February, 2024.
I need your #Christmas bops. Your #Hanukkah jams. The #Kwanzza clappers. Nondenominational end of the year jams. Bonus points for #NewYears hits. I will take everything you give me and create a playlist for every DSP, including something special for @radiofreefedi.
When it becomes Friday, this month’s song will be available on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Tidal, and all the other streamy places. It’s based on a true story, and is still performing really well on Soundcloud where it’s been available for a couple of weeks now.
So if it’s Friday the 29th, go and check out my new song wherever you prefer to stream music. It’s pretty catchy!
✌️😊🤘
Good morning #Fediverse it’s time for some #NewMusic with #FletchsFridayReleases and as always there is a lot to get involved with. I would particularly recommend Vorga from the ones I’ve heard. I am also excited to check out new Coffins.
A new track has appeared in the realms of Metaphsyical Shitposting! "High Times in Mystery Meters" is a deep dive into drone and delay, smearing time and tonality across your eardrums in a most(ly) pleasant way! Listen close to decode the secret messages hidden within!
Have a listen now & check back in soon for a post on how it was made (hint: mostly modular synth).
