When we talk about how Republicans have been attacking the institutions and norms of our democracy, this is a great example. The norm was that these issues are ironed out as a matter of course. Suddenly, they are not. Like the norm was that Congress certify the Presidential election, until Republicans decided it was not, and we had Jan 6th.

(Colorado trying to keep Trump off the ballot for insurrection - also not the norm. But neither is insurrection!)

The phrase “appeal to heaven” comes from the 17th-century philosopher John Locke, who wrote of a responsibility to rebel, even use violence, to overthrow rule. “It’s a paraphrase for trial by arms,” Anthony Grafton, a historian at Princeton University.

So, Alito's Appeal to Heaven flag: a symbol of support for insurrectionist Donald Trump, for a religious strand of the “Stop the Steal” campaign and for a push to remake American government according to the terms.

Alito must recuse himself from cases related to crimes and conspiracy.

In coming weeks, the will rule on that case, which could scuttle the charges against Trump, as well as on whether he is immune from prosecution for his crimes.

It’s a very important aspect of what’s going on in Palestine now and has been a major factor in Israeli politics for the last 20 years

@noyes please read past the headline. the CDC didn't rescind the program just to be petty — instead, the House revoked its funding. cynically snapping at the administration without questioning what happened, plays right into the fascists' hands.
