Story Concept: A secret society of paleontologists and archeologists who make a pact that when each of them dies the others will go to wild lengths to stage burial circumstances most likely to be preserved, even fossilized to confound the intelligent life of the far future. This includes weird burial objects, suggestive poses, etc.

They make the pact when young & silly, but as they grow old and carry it out it becomes a much more serious & momentous thing. About keeping promises & friendship.

Re the Adobe terms of service uproar, the company is claiming that it's all just a misunderstanding.

Anything is possible, but consider:

  1. Adobe is a longstanding abuser of the "intellectual property" system. (A former CEO once told me that if the company's software could make copyright effectively permanent, that would be fine.)

  2. Every time we hear about one of these licensing "mistakes" it's always -- always -- on the side of giving the company more control, and money.

Caught Paying People to Attend Rally

A Craigslist ad has been found offering payment for people to attend Trump's rally in Las Vegas today.

Remember the video from a few days ago where Trump was waving at a non-existent crowd? It appears EVERYTHING IS A FACADE.

The media wants you to think Trump has enthusiasm, but the facts say otherwise.

“I Love Getting Even.” - by Jay Kuo - The Status Kuo

"Each of the interviewers threw him a softball: If you’re elected, you won’t really seek revenge on your enemies by prosecuting them right? All that talk of “I am your retribution” was just braggadocio, right?

Not a chance. Given the opportunity to walk back his threats of revenge, Trump stood firm. In fact, he doubled down and explained why revenge against his opponents might be an unfortunate necessity, as if he reluctantly would be required to exact it against those who have sought to hold him to account.

The fact that many of Trump’s allies in the media are trying to get him to soften his position—and that Trump appears unwilling to do so—is telling. Do they really believe Trump is other than who he says he is? "

rayckeith,
@rayckeith@techhub.social avatar

"Trump’s thirst for revenge now includes specific names, on a list that would rival Arya Stark’s in Game of Thrones. It now includes those who worked closely with him, including his former chief of staff John Kelly, his former attorney general Bill Barr, his former lawyer Ty Cobb, and retired former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley. And of course, it includes Joe Biden and his family, whom he would go after with the appointment of a Special Prosecutor.

"The job of making all this happen has been outsourced, said the Post, to the people behind Project 2025, which has produced a sprawling blueprint on how to systematically destroy American democracy and replace it with a Christian Nationalist, authoritarian government under Trump. The methods include executive orders, already drafted, that would deploy the military domestically under the Insurrection Act."

You won't find this on the NY Times homepage, but "If Trump Wins" is very much the kind of journalism we need from the most important news organization in America.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/06/07/us/politics/trump-policy-list-2025.html?unlocked_article_code=1.yE0.HGUJ.n4G0j7au9_es&smid=url-share

If the Times -- and the rest of our news media -- did this kind of thing relentlessly, they'd be doing their jobs.

It's now or never, journalists. You -- and democracy, which makes what you do possible -- are a prime target of the fascists.

It is so irritating that they do this. Richer cities pay their PD to dump homeless people into poorer cities that don't have the budget to prevent the practice. Then the rich homeowners look down their noses at the cities whose problem they created.
Also the homeless just lost their bearings, their community, their few belongings.

But I like the firehose of content

I'll wade into it and get swept away to parts unknown. Isn't that the point of social media, discovery?

And you can make a list for posters you don't want to miss

Someone says something funny... I feel like following them

Why not? Who cares? Are there magic rules here?

FUCK IT

I'M GOING TO FOLLOW EVERYONE!

It's smart to follow alot here on because unlike where they feed you all sorts of shit based on their (manipulated) , you aren't getting one damn toot until you fill your follow count. You have to follow a lot to get a rich experience.

That needs to be hammered for new accounts: follow, follow, follow. Then follow some more.

Between that and the esoteric mystery of picking a server, a lot of people just don't get it.
