I spent some time on pride infinity emoji. I don’t think they’re amazing — there are just too few pixels to work with, and some of the colors don’t really pop — but nor are they awful. License: CC-NC-SA.
A few days ago I read a piece about #NeuroDiversity and #adhd in particular that stated how dopamine is produced by either motivation or fear. To simplify. Like the drive to do stuff can be triggered purely by fear. Be it of failure or anything.
It haunts me now thinking about my late identified audhd and the whole "high performing" thing or "but you are doing so well" thing. And how this is gendered and how so often women with adhd/audhd are not diagnosed or validated because they "do so well". Yet it is all there.
Think about the amount of fear, trauma, masking and harmful learnt behaviours there has to be and where it has come from to produce one "high performing" neurodivergent person? It's all invisible harm that produces an indivual who seemingly does sort of ok in todays world. The implications of this are so violent in nature it makes me shiver.
Respondents to the 2022 Stack Overflow Developer Survey (https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2022/#neurodiversity) were twice as likely as the global population to self-report as having ADHD, and four times as likely as the global population to self-report as having Autism! #NBPy
I live with my 2 ex-husbands (not a sex thing, a mutual support and respect thing) & our 2 daughters.
I'll be 5 years #sober this year & I am a #therapy veteran. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with #ADHD & I now suspect #ASD too. I'm learning to lean into my #neurodiversity & the necessity of a quiet & carefully curated life.
Disabled (ME/CFS) nonbinary neurodivergent person raising funds to cover bills/pet needs/additional expenses not covered by medical insurance or EBT. I'm working through the disability process, and hoping to get approved for state benefits while I wait for SSI. Until then I could use assistance covering these needs.
@powells.bsky.social in Portland is one of my favorite booksellers on Earth, and I'm so honored that Powell's on Hawthorne is featuring my book #NeuroTribes, along with superb books by Devon Price, Hannah Gadsby, and others, to celebrate #neurodiversity this month.
If you were waiting to buy my in-depth history of #autism and #neurodiversity, NeuroTribes, it's now really cheap at Amazon. The New York Times called it "Beautifully told, humanizing, and important." https://a.co/d/fDNysnr
