@FediFollows

When you mention you should also mention @shiftphones. They too build ethically sourced electronics including with excellent repairability, but they also distribute ROMs for some of their phones.

Any mobile developers out there? 👀

samleegray,

@kainoa I have been looking for a reason to learn more(I specialize in anything & serverside) - so this may be that project I've been looking for.

I'll be entirely honest though, $200 is not super enticing in of itself. It won't be the reason I decide to pursue creating an app or not. I'm sure it'll help get the word out though! 🪩

I get that it’s hot right now, but man, the user experience of LLMs being this bot you type text to seems like a huge step backwards compared to just integrating these AI features natively into products.

Yessss finally an actual privacy preserving device finding network that’s useful outside of just iPhones or Tile app users. That’s gonna be dope.

I really want Google Fast Pair on Linux/GNOME. Has anyone looked into that?

I do enjoy split screen on my Pixel for events like this. I can have the video up top with Mastodon at the bottom. Better than picture-in-picture since it doesn’t cover up the app.

(The top corners not being rounded is driving me nuts though!)

Lock screen clock stuff looks straight from iOS. I am still surprised Apple did this first.

Just wanted to share these as I had never heard about them before: https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools

It's a whole collection of simple, open source Android applications and they are truly wonderful. An absolute joy to use. They each replace one of your core Android applications, remove all the telemetry and bullshit and give you a very usable, lightweight alternative. I love each and every one of them. They also have a consistent look and feel by default.

Poco launched the F5! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vladR6TzyuA
This phone is on early-bird sale for under $400, and features a new "mid-range" chip from Qualcomm that's RIGHT ON THE HEELS of premium performance phones from last year.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is a HUGE shot in the arm for mid-priced devices...

Trying new things while hoping to find some clients that actually care to respond 🙄

Among them development.
At least I don't have to use Java!
Although I can't escape (but I already had contact to via Jenkins).

@mlemweb Since it will be about sewing I was wondering whether you would generally be interested in testing?
The APK would be loaded onto the Android smartphone via ADB during development.
The emulator freezes my laptop.
I hope to release to one day.

As and auto get more and more integrated into in-car infotainment and vehicle systems, what are the odds apps are going to start VIN-locking licenses so you have to pay again whenever you get a new car?

  1. GM dumps CarPlay

  2. GM just hired Apple's former VP of Engineering for Cloud Services, Mike Abbott

"Software, specifically monetizing it, is a major focus for automakers such as GM, as they eye recurring revenue opportunities such as subscriptions to boost profits."

GM is about to replicate Apple's shift to a services-based revenue model.

Subscribe to go faster. 🚗

adamjcook,

@jeff @davemark My understanding is that is embracing a heavily customized version of Automotive (AOSP) under a larger, unified vehicle software platform that they call "Ultifi".
