It's a big day Canada!! How many signatures can we get in 90 days to get a Parliamentary server!?

"We, the undersigned... call upon the Government of Canada to enact policy and dedicate budgetary resources to enable the Parliament of Canada to provide an open, trusted, federated, social media presence for use by all members, senators, officers and other employees of Parliament as appropriate for communication to all Canadians.”

Another screenshot of the text of the petition (please go to the site to read in full). There is also a picture of MP Gord Johns who is sponsoring the petition.

Are you on Mastodon or the Fediverse? (well, duh? 🙂)

Are you Canadian?

Would it be great if the Canadian Parliament had its own Fediverse Server for Parliamentarians and officials to use instead of Corporate Social Media?

If you answered yes to these questions then you should sign and share this House of Commons Petition e-4769!

If not, hey, you can still share (and maybe sign!) :=)

This is literal doom, but I actually find it mildly encouraging that our security and government services are being told the truth about the current state of the nation, society, and world. This is the kind of report that every single politician needs to not only read but really understand.

Quotes below:

"The situation will probably deteriorate further in the next five years, as the early effects of climate change and a global recession add their weight to the ongoing crises"

"accelerate the decline in living standards that the younger generations have already witnessed compared to earlier generations"

"the difference between the extremes of wealth is greater now in developed countries than it has been at any time in several generations"

"Law enforcement should expect continuing social and political polarization fueled by misinformation campaigns and an increasing mistrust for all democratic institutions"

"Access to [big data] will allow private entities to develop the means to exercise undue influence over individuals and populations at an unprecedented level"

"In the wake of COVID-19, Canada's governments have normalized operating during a respiratory pandemic... the damage to the economy and to the social fabric of the nation is ongoing"

Bank of Canada doing its best to act surprised that what Canadians have been saying since this inflation era started might be true. "Profit Led Inflation" aka PRICE GOUGING

"He cites data from Statistics Canada showing that at one point last year, the cost of a unit of labour had increased by a little more than 10 per cent since the start of the pandemic. The per-unit profit, meanwhile, was up by more than 70 per cent over that same time frame."

My cup overflows with anger toward these lying, deceiving, murderous, oil and gas companies. So this morning, I did something I've never done before in hopes the people coming home from their long weekends in Tofino and Ucluelet get the message.

Please Boost.

Canada having trouble finding diplomats willing to work in the US

"Head of foreign service union says gun crime, health insurance issues are helping drive diplomats away"

"There has been all kinds of lockdowns and evacuations in the office. The person says they've personally witnessed five shootings, and yet nobody will look at hardship levels or incentive packages, or even enhanced security budgets for those missions to deal with that,"

🚨 What We Risk by Normalizing Poilievre’s Politics

"We face losing nothing less than Canadian decency, decorum and democracy. Do news media recognize this?"

"Demonizing opponents, intimidating journalists, disrespecting institutions, politicizing the rights of the vulnerable and undermining truth are warning signs for democratic erosion."

"Now is the time-For Canadians concerned with.....our politics to resist giving in to despair."

How big is this good news? India removing coal from their in-place five year plan?

Its bigger than if Canada announced it was ending the 25 billion dollar Trans-mountain Pipeline, and will be spending the money on building renewables.

That is how big this news is.

Thank you again India.

Over to you Mr. Trudeau.

President Carter, now in his last days, home to be with his family as he passes, once personally saved Ottawa from a Nuclear Disaster, at risk, and cost, to his life, suffering from radiation poisoning all his life.

Canada had a Nuclear Accident in the 50s, asked the US for help, Lieutenant Jimmy Carter lead a team out of NY.

The future President Carter, had his team lower him into the reactor.

I had no idea. I have no idea why this isn't widely known

Canadian legacy media picks up the India buying votes in the Conservative leadership race story.

Coyne's a long time right winger. Not a good sign for Poilievre.

Still almost 2 years to the election. Poilievre's schtick won't last.

So former PM Brian Mulroney has died.

This is damning with faint praise, but it is a statement of just how far "Conservatism" has fallen when you consider he was the host for the signing of the Montreal Protocol which banned Ozone hole creating CFCs and he led Canada as an Environmental leader in the 90s.

Unthinkable for today's Conservatives....

He's also our Reagan... and corrupt... so there's that....

Last chance. If you want to have your signature on the real life letter that goes to Canada's House of Commons Speaker and others, you must tell me before 9AM PDT (about 40 minutes).

You do not have to be Canadian to sign.

Signatures received after 9AM will be on the web version.

I've made some updates to the letter including more supporting links and sources.

Happy Dental Care Day Canada!! (at least if you're over 70 without private insurance)

I hope that in time this will become part of universal single-payer healthcare (along Drug Coverage) and eliminate private insurance for health needs, but it's a start at least. And it happened because a centre-left party, the NDP, has an agreement to work with the minority government.

Canada setting a blistering population growth of 3.2% in 2023! The most since the 1950s! Back then the baby boom was still a thing. Today, there were only 40,000 more births than deaths, 97.6% of the growth came from immigration. Over 471,000 people settled here, 800,000 came as temporary workers and others came as international students, asylum seekers, etc. Our population is 40.7 Million.
