Toinen kysymys sitten on, kiinnostavatko näin rakennetut palvelut rahoittajia."

Reddit revenue rises 20% ahead of IPO, but it isn’t profitable yet (www.businesstimes.com.sg)

REDDIT posted a more than 20 per cent rise in revenue in 2023 versus the year before, sources familiar with the situation said, as it prepares for one of the United States’ most anticipated potential initial public offerings (IPOs).

This is such a bullshit anti-pattern.

It's a ducking keyboard app. And it keeps popping up until I pick one. Guilting me into clicking "Yes".

Oh look. Just like Reddit, OpenSubtitles is going to limit their API and try and charge people for access. All their subtitles are user submitted and they have the testicles to try and profit from this content which often helps deaf people enjoy movies.

The new iPads are once again mind-blowingly amazing hardware showcases, hamstrung by software and an extractive App Store gatekeeper that limits what users can effectively do.

There is now such a large overlap of prices between iPad and MacBooks that we’ll probably never see a touchscreen Mac, because it would be a superior choice over iPad in most cases.

What I want, really, is macOS running on desktop, laptop, and tablet form factors, with a relatively open software environment not solely owned by the App Store.

I think Microsoft actually got it right with Windows 11 (minus the ads). If only they pushed more strongly on the Surface lineup…

I think he's right about everything except that the recent hiccups with payment processing are a sign of neglect.

Ah, the continues.

is a Swedish service many Scandinavian webshops use so you can get a proper bill instead of using your credit card.

It turns out they now:

  • Try to force you to install their app. Hell no.
  • No longer give you an invoice PDF.
  • Require you to log in with bank id, which is fine, but also demand to get your phone number. If you don't comply, you're logged out.
  • Do not allow you to contact support electronically without loging in.

Fuck you, Klarna.

The mass enshittification of every major Internet platform hasn't exacty been a slow and subtle process, but I feel like generative AI has really slammed down the gas pedal (Twixter, Reddit, GitHub are prime examples).

I'm wondering (and kinda depressed) about YouTube being next, because there really isn't anything comparable out there. Vimeo's the only one with like quality, but their model creates an access barrier. Dailymotion? ha! And PeerTube's name makes it sound like an XXX broker, to say nothing of massive quality limitations, rampant low-quality conspiracy nonsense, and a whole bunch of (completely understandable) limitations regarding size and number of files.

Smart locks securing entry to an estimated 50,000 dwellings nationwide contain hard-coded credentials that can open them remotely.

The lock's maker Chirp Systems remains unresponsive, even though it was first notified about the critical weakness in March 2021. Meanwhile, Chirp's parent company, RealPage, Inc., is being sued by multiple U.S. states for allegedly colluding with landlords to illegally raise rents.

Author clearly explains how private equity firms are destroying essential industries, how they avoid legal responsibility for the disastrous consequences, who’s empowering them and how they can be stopped.

Private equity’s is to blame for much of the worst aspects of health care, housing crisis, the economy as well as the deepening wealth gap.

Fuck. It looks like Apple Music has changed the way it generates artwork for a playlist. It used to combine the album art from the first 4 tracks.

Now it gives some abstract monstrosity.

Dolby Atmos is close to the only reason for putting up with the foibles of Apple Music. Whoever is in charge of it needs a good talking to.

It’ll have ads soon I expect.

The enshittification of Discord officially begins as it started to start showing ads. Can we move to something that people control and not Discord.

Also, a PSA, stop using Discord as the everything app. Forums, Wikis, XMPP, IRC exists.

Update: I know it's April Fools, but I am very suspicious if it happens again when it's not April 1st.

Uh oh. It appears has come for

I just went to check a dimension on some screws that I plan to use on a current project, and when I went to view the product detail to see the drawing with dimensions, it told me I needed to be logged in to view product details.

Since when? Can anyone else confirm this?

If true, what a shitty move that erases a couple decades of good will with engineers everywhere.
