Today is #NewstodonFriday, a day to feature work from newsrooms that have an active presence in the #Fediverse. If you like what you see in the thread below, follow the profiles and boost their stories. If you're a journo or newsroom that we don't know about (or there's someone that should be on our radar), please comment below.
Make use of #Lists, and when you follow someone make a habit of adding them to a list right then.
It's quick and easy:
Set up at least three or four lists. You can number them to arrange the list display order.
After you hit FOLLOW, click the three vertical dots and choose "Add or Remove from lists". This will bring up your lists and you can click to add the follow to one or more lists.
They will make your #Fediverse life so much better.
One thing we love about Mastodon is the community's curiosity about the world. Here are a few of our favorite Magazines (topical feeds of content) we think you may like:
The 19th, an independent nonprofit newsroom reporting on gender, politics and policy: @the
Politics & Society from The Conversation: @politics
“Stop with the fucking history lessons about what the Israelites did, or what the Ottomans did, or what the British did, or whatever. IT IS FUCKING IMMATERIAL. There is a pile of dog shit in the living room. Instead of arguing about whose dog took the bigger shit in the living room, maybe focus on how we clean up the dog shit, and maybe we keep the dogs outside.”
@shayz0rz I really like this place. People can have convos with dramatically less BS being thrown at each other. I used to be on the #Birdsite and left during the #MastodonMigration . I really don't miss the stress of that place. Thx again for your voice here.
#Introduction#Astrodon I’m an astronomer at a regional university with an outreach program. When I have time for research, it’s archaeology of dead stars (supernovae). My nom de plume is to make clear my opinions are not associated with my institutions. I like #wildlife and animals, #history , #SocialJustice , geekery like #DnD, #Poetry (a dabbler), humor (punster), and interests too numerous to list. I’m part of the 🐦➡️ #MastodonMigration, but trying to be respectful of the community.
After a couple of days on #Mastodon I’m very impressed & excited to be part of this growing community! #mastodonmigration
My only humble suggestion is that it needs more tardigrades aka "water bears."
Tardigrades have survived every mass #extinction on Earth since they evolved about a 1/2 billion years ago. There are ~1,300 known species. And millions of years from now, they won’t even notice we’re gone. #SharedPlanet

In December, we started to federate the accounts of some Flipboard publishers and in February, we introduced Magazines to the fediverse. Now, we’re taking two important steps: federating the accounts of 400 creators and expert curators; and enabling two-way communication so that new followers and fediverse activity are visible and actionable in the Flipboard app.
To learn more about this, take a look at our blogpost:
Thanks so much to everyone who has given feedback on what we’ve done so far. We welcome your thoughts and comments as we continue on our journey to fully federate Flipboard.
