Using #GenAI and LLMs for unfiltered and unsupervised one-to-many #marketing and #Customerexperience tactics for content feels downright dangerous. That may change over time, but for now, pay attention to brand missteps with AI when it's given free rein to produce content for customers. Explore AI, but protect your #CustomerExperience by using AI cautiously for now. Three examples🧵 :
Since their arrival, generative AI models and their trainers have demonstrated their ability to download any online content for model training. For content owners and creators, few tools can prevent their content from being fed into a generative AI model against their will. Opt-out lists have been disregarded by model trainers in the past, and can be easily ignored with zero consequences. They are unverifiable and unenforceable, and those who violate opt-out lists and do-not-scrape directives can not be identified with high confidence.
In an effort to address this power asymmetry, we have designed and implemented Nightshade, a tool that turns any image into a data sample that is unsuitable for model training. More precisely, Nightshade transforms images into "poison" samples, so that models training on them without consent will see their models learn unpredictable behaviors that deviate from expected norms, e.g. a prompt that asks for an image of a cow flying in space might instead get an image of a handbag floating in space.
"[...] we have been and will continue to be clear that we do not allow the use of generative AI in our art. While detection can be difficult and lines blurry, we are working hard to make sure our art is made by the talented humans who have delighted our fans for decades"
Very few people seem to be dealing with the facts that:
#genAI services are all being priced as loss-leaders at this point.
gen AI is only going to get more expensive, there's literally no forseeable prospect for cost reduction in how AI is produced.
Eventually these vendors are gonna be expected to count profits, not revenues, & that's going to mean either fewer services, less service, higher prices, or all of the above.
researchers are using #GenAI to accelerate drug development. The discovery phase was slow and expensive, so they trained a transformer model on drug data and it’s able to reliably generate drugs that are dramatically different than anything anyone’s seen before
Note: the title says “ChatGPT” but it’s not a GPT at all, quite a different architecture
Laws, ethical debates? It's all too late. The cat's out of the bag. Women over 60, 70 from our village share things like this on WhatsApp and laugh their heads off: https://mastodon.online/@asol@mastodon.social/112291529251522267
Can I take a photo of you? - Why? - I can do that with you too! - Oops!
"I believe that artificial intelligence has three quarters to prove itself before the apocalypse comes, and when it does, it will be that much worse, savaging the revenues of the biggest companies in tech.", predicts Ed Zitron.
“AI” as currently hyped is giant billion dollar companies blatantly stealing content, disregarding licenses, deceiving about capabilities, and burning the planet in the process.
It is the largest theft of intellectual property in the history of humankind, and these companies are knowingly and willing ignoring the licenses, terms of service, and laws that us lowly individuals are beholden to.
does exposing kids to new technology X do bad things to them?
this year it’s #GenAI and #LLMs. for earlier generations it was radio, then TV, then video games, social media, etc.
and yeah, some of those were bad, but a lot of times it was totally benign or even good. i’m trying to take a threat modeling approach to AI. not just modeling threats but also how it fits into their development
The TinyChart-3B LLM answers questions about data visualizations. It can also generate underlying data from a dataviz and Python code to re-create a similar chart.
Should we stop saying that #GenAI is "thinking" and rather use "assume" instead? I think that would better explain what is actually happening behind the scenes and prevent false expectations.
