Infect your communities with mutual kindness, mutual aid, mutual understanding, mutual grassroots efforts to drive towards making collective, meaningful, mutually beneficial progress!
Don't infect your communities with #covid because it will #disaable or #kill off many folks needed in #resistance against the #governments trying to keep divide/conquer crapola #StatusQuo BS going - that harms, not helps our communities!
Our head of emerging media @cjammet shared his thoughts on how #musk 's ruination of #twitter highlights the the importance of the #fediverse, especially for #governments, #NGO's, and #journalists. Give it a read and share your thoughts!
I see people making judgments about those that still remain on #BigSocial those that use ā #AI ā , those that work for #governments those that donāt use #foss etc whatever purity tests you lot have. I donāt respect you people. Youāre the same people that have nasty racist, sexist, homophobic family, friends and colleagues that you call āgood peopleā some of you are also these kinds of people yourselves with. The majority of the people you are critical of happen to be marginalised folk. People that donāt have the means, resources, support, time etc to do these things thus āconvenienceā is a big part of how they survive.
Iāve seen many of you daily critical of the use of #GenerativeAI you know whoās taking advantage of the free versions and #OpenSource models? Marginalised folk, people who have learning disabilities, donāt know English or other global languages and people that lack the based educational support that are attempting to bridge gaps. Many sit on your high horse thinking your ethical and moral people but youāre not! Youāre selfish, inconsiderate and privileged.
Lastly, Iām tired of you defensive #foss#OpenSource folk insulting peopleās intelligence and lives because you use and make products/services that arenāt intuitive. People simply canāt afford to use things that takes too much time to adjust to and learn, go look up the poverty levels. Again, Iām talking about specific types of people there are many of you that are lovely and considerate. #fediverse
The cache ā containing >570 files, images & chat logs ā offers an unprecedented look inside the ops of one of the firms that #Chinaās govt agencies hire for on-demand, mass #data-collecting ops.
The files ā posted to GitHubā¦& deemed credible by #cybersecurity expertsā¦ā detail contracts to extract foreign data over 8 yrs & describe targets w/in ā„20 foreign govts & territories, including India, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Taiwan & Malaysiaā¦.
āWe rarely get such unfettered access to the inner workings of any intelligence operation,ā said John Hultquist, chief analyst of MandiantIntelligence, a #cybersecurity firm owned by GoogleCloud. āWe have every reason to believe this is the authentic data of a contractor supporting global & domestic #cyberespionage operations out of China,ā he said.
US #intelligence ofcls see #China as the greatest long-term threat to American #security & have raised alarm about its targeted #hacking campaigns.
Imho all #governments in all countries on all levels should communicate via the #fediverse, instead of via commercial services. Why should a profit-maximizing feed #algorithm, and an ad placement algorithm get between the citizen and their government in a democracy?
@J12t All democratically elected governments of the free world should be active on their own Mastodon instances - it's a matter of credibility, integrity & honesty.
Those who still believe autonomous AI isn't a threat need to reassess their stance.
"Several #governments are lobbying the #UN for a binding resolution restricting the use of AI killer #drones, but the #USA is among a group of nations ā which also includes #Russia, #Australia, and #Israel ā who are resisting any such move, favoring a non-binding #resolution instead."
What we need is a fleet of armed drones not under AI control, hovering over the data centers that run AI. Then when/if it becomes necessary, we can terminate a rogue AI app.
"We write as journalists, artists, authors, activists, technologists, and academics to warn of increasing international #censorship that threatens to erode centuries-old democratic norms. [...]"
@publicvoit People that call a law that forbids the denial of genocide as censorship are none that I want to pay attention. Also it's interesting what laws they don't mention: Americas states censor books in schools and libraries. German states censor Gender aware language in schools and even universities. Yes censorship is a growing problem, but these people seem to want to protect hate speech and disinformation rather than free speech and democracy.
@publicvoit Using the term āmainstream mediaā says it all ā it often reveals the authorās political leanings and implies a monolithic media landscape that doesnāt actually exist.
