China ‘Running Away’ With Strategically Important Advanced Industries: Think Tank

The report by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation also said that while India's advanced-industry output has been consistently outshined by China's, it may emerge as an alternative to China if it “assure[s] investors of the basics”.

The Wile Carding Mill Museum site is located in Bridgewater

Built in 1868, this mill which is powered by water from the Sandy Brook, as it pours over the waterfall was still in use 100 years later.

Wool carding is a manufacturing process by which wool is cleaned, untangled and readied for use for textiles.

During the 19th century, they employed unmarried women to run their machinery. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/wile-carding-mill-karen-cook.html

In 1953, a man in Pugwash discovered an underground deposit of salt.

Since then the Canadian Salt Company has been mining salt from what is the only salt mine and only underground mine in operation in Nova Scotia. With shafts extending down into the earth at depths of 1000 feet, into working rooms of salt with diameters of 30 x 55 feet, the refinery produces over 1.2 million tonnes of salt per year. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/salt-mine-pugwash-nova-scotia-karen-cook.html

Germany teams up with Baltic states in EU digital reform push

Germany, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are set to approach the Commission with a proposal to reform EU digital policy, with Berlin hoping to benefit from the expertise of the Baltic states who, in turn, want to capitalise on Germany’s clout.

@eunews Something I miss in the nine-point plan proposed by Germany and the Baltics is support for the development of European tech.

It's as if they want the EU to maximise the advantages of using someone else's software.

Let's promote EU native software as well.

This could include the European cloud, rather than having Amazon operate EU-only clouds.

Regulatory Capture

"A “captured agency” refers to a regulatory agency or government body that has been unduly influenced or controlled by the very industries or entities it is supposed to regulate. In such a situation, the agency no longer acts in the best interest of the public but instead serves the interests of the industries it is supposed to oversee."

Does anyone have thoughts on what this could be? I found it in an old dumping ground that also had a lot of industrial waste. It doesn’t look bubbly like the type of slag I’m used to seeing (iron or stone- based), yet I feel like this could be some type of silica-based byproduct?

An alternative view of the “rock” which shows the striations have a curve to them - perhaps layers as a result of melting?

The EU’s Hydrogen Bank has begun operations and is offering €800 million to hydrogen producers to kickstart demand for the fuel crucial to industrial decarbonisation.

By 2030, Europe wants to produce 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually. To get companies to switch, Brussels is footing the difference between their ability to pay and the high prices charged by producers of clean-burning gas.

There is no question that will be the most important yet. The will be the “biggest accountability moment in history”, and on its basis leaders will need to make crucial key decisions about fiscal and policy commitments. With less than two months to go, we need to all be as well informed as possible and put pressure on leaders as much as we can. I thought I would start a 🧵that I will keep going in the run up 1/n

@pvonhellermannn don’t trust the with optimising for the environment. They can maximally be expected to optimise for selling . We have to expect, the private sector will ignore all environmental implications they can get away with, i.e. externalise as much as possible within any project.
