Hey! I was on the news to talk about the OnePlus 12! Had a chat with my buddy Rich Demuro during his podcast, and he used a few clips for his report on KTLA! https://ktla.com/news/oneplus-12-smartphone-review/
Give it a share!
OnePlus is bringing some price disrupting tech to their earbuds, and the Buds 3 might be a better fit for you than the more expensive Buds 2 Pro released last year!
OK, I'm not sure how to go about the OnePlus 12R..... Compared to the OnePlus 12, it's fucking solid and cheaper. WOW. I mean it when I say SOLID. Daily driver without a hitch. I'll have more to share later. #OnePlus12R#OnePlus#Review if there's anything you want to know, hit me up.
American friends, you have limited smartphone brand options in your country, give a chance to lesser known companies (at least lesser known up there)!!
It's a STUNNING return to form. The OnePlus 12R is a proper "flagship killer" for North America. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/3y7
It's a price-to-performance that Samsung and Apple really have no answer for...

Day 5 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:
📸 I decided to leave my Android phone at home today, and I almost didn't miss it at all! The only thing I missed was the ability to snap quick pictures since the camera driver doesn't work yet, which is also the reason why there are no pictures today.
📋 At this time, some minor annoyances begin to show. For example, it's really difficult to copy/paste text because not all applications support long-press actions like on Android. And when taking a screenshot, it is copied to the clipboard. To send it to someone, the keyboard must be switched to "terminal" mode in order to press CTRL+V to paste the image, because, again, pasting by long-pressing doesn't work (yet).
🌏 Today, I didn't do much with my phone except for messaging and browsing the web, both work really well on pmOS. I can't really explain why, but even on such a small screen, having a regular desktop Firefox to work with makes a big difference. It's just so much better.
🖱️ I also tried out some typical desktop applications like GIMP, Krita, LibreOffice, Blender and even Godot Engine. All of which work in theory, but have varying issues with scaling and touch input. But it's cool to be able to just launch Blender on your phone.
🔋 One thing I can't get over is the insane battery life. The OnePlus 6T with Linux lasts way longer than my Pixel 4a with Android.
What's going on with the OnePlus 12 camera?
I've gotten a number of questions from folks concerned about the new camera sensor in the OnePlus 12, and how it might be different from the OnePlus Open. Is OnePlus trying to pull a fast one? Should folks expect poorer camera performance on the less expensive phone?
Why did Sony give these sensors different names?
Day 4 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:
📶 I felt brave this morning, so I handed over my SIM card to Linux. At first, the phone didn't recognise the card, but the wiki page helped me resolve the problem quickly. I had to increase the config value sim_wait_time and reboot the phone to make it work. Mobile data and receiving texts work flawlessly. I haven't tried sending texts and making calls yet.
⏰ Yesterday, I also used the Clock app to set an alarm to wake up and a timer when cooking, and it actually worked fine, even with the phone locked.
🚈 I also had my train ticket checked today. I was able to present the QR code without any issues.
Last week I pre-ordered a #OnePlus 12. I had instantly started to have regrets, but after looking at more reviews, especially @SomeGadgetGuy's coverage of the phone, I am confident this phone will be great. Currently I am daily driving a Z Fold 5 and I am getting REALLY annoyed with the non standard aspect ratios of both displays. All the apps stretch/crop to try and fit this phone, and some apps just don't work the way they should because of it.
Day 3 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:
I had my first crash! I wanted to unlock the phone while waiting for some coffee to finish brewing, and after a few seconds of black screen I got this.
I usually do a "One Year Upgrade" video comparing a new phone to the previous, but that really wasn't a fair fight for the OnePlus 11... https://youtu.be/vayYP5F0YDE
Day 2 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:
At the moment, I'm still carrying an Android phone which provides a wifi hotspot.
The most important things have been established: Fediverse access (via Tuba) and messaging (via Fractal). After initial problems with the repo-version of Fractal, the Flatpak version works very well. I've already been messaging my wife, family and friends from Linux.
I also successfully purchased and downloaded a public transport ticket for February.
The battery life has been very very good. I think the automatic suspend is working it's magic. However, I'm not sure if this affects notifications yet.
Last Monday of January! That means VIEWERS take the wheel! https://www.twitch.tv/somegadgetguy
Give us a share! The podcast is live, and this week we're going wherever the chat takes us. It's been a CRAZY BUSY start for us tech nerds in 2024. This first month has been a constant march through new phones, mixed reality headsets, and tech politics. What do YOU think was the biggest tech story this month?
Since disconnecting my photos from being automatically uploaded to Google I've been fighting my #OnePlus 6T (and otherwise great phone) to pull them off and drop them into my backup. #Android Transfer just wouldn't pick up the phone for an unspecified error.
Today I cracked it - I needed to set the default USB connction option to "File Transfer" because changing it once connected didn't work.
Frustrting - I don't want my default to be file transfer.
I believe this might be the best premium phone of the year in North America. It's a great return to form for a company that consistently undercuts Samsung and Apple, offering top tier tech.
I hate sounding like the old guy in the room when I say things like "phone design used to be more fun". I mean, I AM the old guy in the room, but I hate SOUNDING like the old guy complaining about new tech.
Frosted gradients. Laser etched glossy. Bold primary color polycarb. Metal and leather. Different form factors and features... Sigh...
