Ok, let's make a poll for community.

How do you call the program combining object files into an executable?

Thinking about my future... I have skills in IT, art and now possibly in geo/paleo. I would want to mix them together and have a well paying stable job sometime in 1-3 years from now on. Any ideas? Any sphere needs such soup of skills?

What could be worse than rewriting old code that was written by another person, who called variables not only with lexical errors, but also using words unrelated to the code context... 👽🛸

Here's some hard-won old wisdom. (Been talkin' to these gol-durn machines for forty years now!)

When doing something like this

if self.foo() or self.bar:
...

And your code relies on self.foo() to be called every time, leave future you a brief comment warning against reversing the order of the terms.

This one (proprietary) project of mine is now over 30,000 lines in 150 mostly unit-tested modules & it gets hard to remember everything 100%. Maybe more after 40 years...

Found the #KeyboardIO Atreus during our big office migration. It got lost behind a bookshelf. Plugged it in and woo baby twenty words per minute.

mjgardner,

@randomgeek That’s an… interesting… layout. Of course, as a I’d be hitting that “Fun” key a lot for sigils and punctuation.

My heart goes pitter-pat for the space-cadet--esque “Super” key (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_key_%28keyboard_button%29)

Not going to say my age now, but it was a 486DX2-66 with a whole 8MB of memory.

Outside of tech, I'm outdoorsy. I like a good , or in the woods. I love nature and campaign to protect the and .

In 1991, my Bulgarian roommate's Mom in Bulgaria heard about "computer viruses" and freaked. She called her son and sternly warned him to be very careful around computers, and take care of his health. He tried to explain that computer viruses don't affect one's physical health. But she was just Mom. Wouldn't hear a word of his protests. He finally agreed to her terms. He teaches Computer Science now.

I’ve learned the liver is your body’s version of a monolithic app. It does over 500 functions. It’s like God got tired of designing small services and was like “just put it in the liver we got a universe to finish this sprint!”

Certain folks are saying that Bluesky’s search capabilities spell potential doom for the Fediverse.

Except Bluesky is only searching on one node. What happens when you add another node? What happens when you add 10,000 nodes for Bluesky to connect with?

Will all nodes that use AT protocol have comparable search?

Will Bluesky’s search even be as good as what’s available on Misskey, Akkoma, Friendica, and some forms of Mastodon?

We don’t know!

Top left and top right: LCD screens with various game stats displayed, as well as the message from "Shift Supervisor": "When I get my desk pillow, should it be a shark or an octopus?". Top middle: an orange industrial robot arm. Centre: a dividing wall behind a rack with 5 buckets of device parts. Bottom: a conveyor belt with a device in the middle, and a device part (a rotary knob) floating above and to the left.
Screenshot of a 3D diorama of a city, late in the evening. Midrise buildings on the left and right, a railway viaduct behind them. A street passes between the buildings, making a 90-degree turn. Some windows in the buildings are lit. One storefront on the right has blueish light coming through the windows, and the Ludum Dare logo right above them. In front of the building on the left there are: a vending machine, a bench, a bin, a streetlamp, and some bicycle stands.
Photo of an elevated subway train station, with 2 platforms, and 2 tracks between them, with third rail electrification. Part of the platform length is covered by a triangular-shaped main canopy that also covers the tracks. Part of the station is uncovered. There are people waiting for trains on both platforms. Some midrise buildings in the background. Sun is shining from just behind the end of the station canopy.
