A complete novice in computing can be shown how to use some #programming language in just a few weeks. In a few months, he will have amassed adequate skills to not embarrass himself in polite company. But he will need about a decade more of focused learning and working to become a #programmer.
Similarly, an experienced programmer can pick up a new language in a few hours. But he will need at least a couple of years of persistent use to become proficient in it.
The trouble, though, is us—the #programmers. We fall into two camps: one-language homesteaders and all-language nomads. Even when we are obliged to use one language on one project, year after year, the first type is constantly looking for ways to return to their one true language and the second type is perpetually seeking ways to subvert the project so they can bring in the latest unproven languages.
I just moved instances but I'm still looking for work!
I need a job. I'm willing to relocate anywhere trans-friendly, or work remotely (but my current home internet is not reliable).
I understand several programming languages, and can use #Java and #Kotlin fluently. I also dabble in HTML and CSS, but my JavaScript skills are lacking.
I'm right at home in any Jetbrains IDE + #Git environment, but I can also make do with other editors. Other source control may not be so easy for me to learn.
My GitHub and personal website are linked in my bio. I contribute to open source projects regularly.
My highest formal education is a GED.
I've worked professionally in the past as a video game tester, a grocery bagger, a home mover, and a car lot attendant.
Please email me at carolinejoybell@gmail.com with any serious offers.
I maintain a personal website and blog at <starbreaker.org/>, and all of my fiction is available for free there.
A decade ago I published Without Bloodshed, which sold well enough to complicate my tax returns for a couple of years thanks to a modest following I had on Google+. A few years later I published Silent Clarion, which bombed. Probably my own damn fault.
I'm working on another novel called Spiral Architect in the same setting with the same cast, and most of my responses to #WritingWonders and #PennedPossiblities will be based on that #WIP.
I'm not big on following people just because they've followed me so I'm not a good fit for your #WritingCommunity, but if you follow me, and then actually interact with me I'll probably follow you back.
I have had chronic fatigue for about three years. The last year and a half is very noticeable in everything, especially as a programmer.
I watched another movie with Ben Affleck. And I see that he has been very exhausted for the last 5 years in all the films. I look at him and see myself, but I am a millions times poorer
Updating my #introduction post because I feel like I'm going to be here a while ☺️
Quickly, first up all of my content (especially the AI generated stuff) that I put up on Mastodon will be covered by CC BY-SA #CCBYSA. Basically, you can use and remix my stuff but you gotta let others do the same to whatever you create with the original. Also, please link me in and show me what you did!
Secondly, all my posts are scheduled to be deleted after 3 months to help the storage costs of the admin so if you like something make sure you delete it before it's gone!
Scrolled a bit through #ThreadsApp just now. The #meta (haha) posting seems to have died down. At this point I’m maintaining the account as a starter list of normies and Brands™ once the service opens up federation.
🔈🎊 HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!🎊 🔈 The RubyConf CFP is now open! 🥳 We are accepting Talks (30-45mins) or Workshops (2 hours). Take a look at this year's conference tracks and submit your proposal today! https://sessionize.com/rubyconf-2023/
It is amazing that #VSCode has just quietly dominated the IDE world without a lot of debate. It used to be a fight between Emacs/Vim, JetBrains, Eclipse and a long list of smaller IDEs.
Now I see either VSCode or a proprietary IDE if your stack has one.
Hello, everyone! #introduction
My name is Tyler. I really love #manga and #LanguageLearning. I worked as a #music teacher for a few years, but recently started a new job as a #programmer. I’ve been hanging out on urusai.social but I wanted to make an account here to see what Calckey is all about!
Since I'm still new to this server instance and Mastodon in general, I guess I'll introduce myself a bit.
I'm a hobbyist #gamedev and #programmer with around 12 years of experience. I have been playing with game engines for most of my life. I also enjoy making #3dart , and reading/#writing progression fantasy books. (Mostly #litrpg )

Generating #code using #ChatGPT is like listening to audiobooks. Just as listening to books will not make one a fluent reader, generating code will not make one a fluid #programmer.
Back when #Java became mainstream in the 1990s, some doctors, lawyers, and businessmen accosted me about how easy it was to be a #programmer, compared to their professions.
When #JavaScript became popular, much larger number of them believed they could write programmes in their domains much better than computer scientists.
Today, all of them believe that, using #ChatGPT, they can do better than computer scientists in implementing applications in their domains.
