With the Apollo app for Reddit shutting down soon, I’m going to need to start relying on Mastodon for all of my cute animal photo, gif, and story needs. #Apollo#Reddit#Animals#SmallTalk
RT @CopernicusEMS: Our latest Global Drought Observatory #GDO analytical report analyses how the #drought🚱 in #SouthAmerica is affecting the region's economy, agriculture and ecosystems🌱🌾
The Incas had around 1000 potato varieties. Their potato goddess was Acsumama or Axomama. Potatoes come from #SouthAmerica originally- they were first domesticated near #LakeTiticaca more than 2000 years BC! 🔵
In the #Inca calendar, the month we call #May was when they harvested corn. 🌽🌽

BREAKING 🔥 Scientists from @ScientistRebellion and artists from @ExtinctionR and "Forfattere Ser Grønt" are occupying the biggest industrial #farming#lobby in #Denmark (Landbrug og Fødevarer) to demand an end to #lobbyism in food production, and an immediate transition away from the destructive, #colonial and undemocratic farming practices that prevail in Denmark, and which are responsible for ~30% of the country's #CO2#emissions. #TheScienceIsClear#BefriJorden (1/n)
#Denmark is also forcing #Indigenous communities to move from their land by exporting #emissions and #pollution to #SouthAmerica, where they grow soy monoculture on an area equivalent to almost 20% of the Danish territory. (6/n)
"#Indigenous people are guaranteed exclusive use of natural resources on these lands, viewed by scientists as a bulwark against Amazon deforestation - a major challenge in the fight against climate change."
We are business in #Singapore dedicated to promote South American culture.
We do that mostly through our #foods and #beverages, for which we have even setup a supply chain of key #ingredients since 2015, but we would participate of any cultural expression such as music, dance, poetry, narrative, painting, cinema, theater, etc.
We also love to experiment with collaborations by chefs and artists from both sides of the Pacific.
We are strong believers in freedom, integration, open access, inclusiveness and collaboration as the key ingredients of social progress, so we hope to make of the Fediverse our social media home. 😊
We just got back from four weeks in South America! And here’s how the trip started: with a rainy stay in the driest place on Earth… These photos are from a sunset spent looking out over the Valle de la Luna, watching distant thundery downpours.
We took a tour from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni in #Bolivia, home of the world’s largest salt flats—and the first day of this was a strong contender for ‘best day of the holiday’.
Llamas, flamingos, a fox, implausibly coloured lakes, and thin 4000+-metre air.
It is fine. However, I prefer at least a short abstract.
In this case, I got stuck on this, though:
"The biggest problem, however, would be the domino effect that #greening the #Sahara would have on the rest of the world.
The Sahara sand is carried by the wind towards #SouthAmerica, and as it crosses the [#Atlantic] #ocean, it gets soaked with moisture, setting the stage for the heavy #rain that falls on the #Amazon#rainforest...."
I think I posted the link of an @oxfam video from #SouthAmerica. They seem to be "pushing" #camellones.
My gut feeling is that yields will rise tremendously:
Double income from electricity generation and agricultural produce. Better crop yields through better water distribution over time. Less dependency on long-range irrigation and costly canals (depending on the set up.)
Protection of crops against hail and torrential rainfalls by the panels.
