I've been away from the fedi, but I've been quite active in a lot of projects. One of these projects has been studying the impacts of pork production in the Yucatan Peninsula, where the current administration is building the so called "Mayan" Train. Yucatan is one of the largest exporters of pork meat in Mexico, in conditions in which water is easily polluted, and communities are fighting against the global market. Spider silk, covered in dew like a royal necklace. I managed to get several wonderful photos of these webs. No sign of their builders at all that entire morning though. It was foggy and cool, there was dew on everything. A truly fantastic morning for a macro photographer
On a boat this morning! The Thames is London’s connection to the global ocean & the reason for the city’s existence. London makes much more sense when seen from the water, even today. Yet Londoners still see the water as an absence rather than a presence - a place where buildings, parks and roads aren’t, rather than a place where the ocean is. And the Thames certainly isn’t dead. Sunset over the pacific. Twilight, just before all the light of day is gone. The sun makes a final salute, setting on fire the clouds above and ocean below.
"Studies from all over the world have shown #crop#yields increase when the crops are partially shaded with #solar panels. These yield increases are possible because of the #microclimate created underneath the solar panels that conserves #water and protects plants from excess sun, wind, hail and soil erosion. This makes more food per acre, and could help bring down food prices."

"Proposition K, known as the “climate charter,” has provoked fierce resistance and doomsday projections from business interests, spawning a bitter fight with local climate activists.
The proposition calls on the city of #ElPaso to reorganize its employees, create a new #climate department and rethink local policy at all levels to cut greenhouse gas #emissions and put the entire community on a path to an “environmentally sustainable future.” "
The big #FossilFuel boys swoop in and appropriate municipal #water - in an arid place like #ElPaso - for their #fracking purposes, leaving the town to grapple with the health consequences.
