This sounds like an interesting game! I love a good horror game, Supermassive Games tends to be a great studio which makes buy worthy games. I’m sold on the multiplayer release too. I’ll be checking out reviews to see if this is a winner or a stinker!

Admittedly I haven't played much of , and the geo-specific naming conventions make my head spin.

That said - "Monsters in the Dark" is a book that's high on my list to read this year.

It chronicles the legendary journey of Julian Gollop and the creation of X-COM.

James Stephanie Sterling pretty much confirmed my suspicions about Stellar Blade. That crosses a clumsy, knock off borderline softcore porn version of Nier Automata out of my mind forever! Thank God for them!

I feel very conflicted reading this review.

I want to hate this review, I really don't like pieces with snide remarks and jokes, I had my fill with XPlay on that.
But Sterling seems to want to genuinely review it fairly, and I can't fault them for that.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Dennis5891 Sterling is a genuine reviewer through and through, anything they've reviewed is fair! Journalistic integrity mixed with snide remarks and jokes has always been a priority for Sterling. The 7.5/10 seems like a fair score for a decent but clumsy game like this.

32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic.

You can play Wolfenstein 3D FREE in browser here: https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d) and you can also download it free and run it on your own machine via DOSBox. Wolf 3D is also on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2270/Wolfenstein_3D) for a few bucks, and on the Microsoft store (the port of the 360 version). Now if they'd only port it to Switch! 😂

Happy birthday, B.J. Blazkowicz. 🎂

@synlogic nice! Oh wow and yeah recently saw that original version - so wild. Had no idea. The evolution of it all is so cool, and now the Wolf games are so polished haha. I just love that old blocky look though 😂

Hey folks, I have a question - is there an online marketplace where people can self-publish Witcher material? I don't see anything on DriveThruRPG beyond the official stuff, not sure if R Talsorian permit or encourage self-published stuff?

EDIT: Fuck, this is also Kerbel Space Program 2 toast. Didn't realize Intercept was the new team that was on that.

@jannem @glassbottommeg skylines 2 was horrifyingly bad, no way that was just a simple multithreading fix away from working, that thing was chopping between 5-40fps on my 4090+5950x w/ 128 gigs of ram even put down to 1080p... unity's performance IS pretty garbage but not THAT garbage, paradox/colossal rushed it out the door unfinished is all, i mean it doesn't even have actual simulation going on, none of the stats actually work.

glassbottommeg,
@glassbottommeg@peoplemaking.games avatar

@raptor85 @jannem Yep, this. You could totally make Skylines 2 with Unity. I mean I ditched it, but that's due to future planning - right now, sure.

They just... uh... did not. Or I mean maybe they would have on a longer timeline, but they shipped it before putting in that last year of polishing and tightening.

Review of CTRL ALT EGO on Steam:

This is Fantastic.

So many comparing it with Prey when it's a very different beast. All it has in common with that is the 'emergent' puzzle solving and the fact it's set on a space station.

MY first thought: it's like Observation. Did you play Observation, the fun wee sci-fi game where you're a computer roving around cameras, flipping switches and solving puzzles in a space station orbiting Saturn? No, I'll bet you didn't you PHILESTINES. Well, anyway, the gameplay mechanic here is very similar, a digital entity bouncing around receptive nodes piloting bots and drinking juice. Yes, and in the game.

It's also a tiny bit like The Sentinel: Geoff Crammond's 8-bit Opus where you conscious-zapped from robot body to robot body to avoid the Titular overseer. Listen out for some music snippets that homage/directly riff on that old game's iconic sound effects: dun-dan-dun-dun-DUHHHN. But this game is more advanced and accessible that that hoary old classic.

I'm four levels in and having a great time. I've frozen more M.U.M.s than an explosion in Iceland. I've made DADs my [female dog]: "THIS IS WRONG". And I think the person guiding me via witty messages knows too much.
