The Smart 4K TV I have now is totally frustrated but fully functioning, so I'm not in the market for this gen. Every so often it takes over the screen and complains it has no network connectivity and that I'm losing out! I then massage the buttons on its remote, calming its fears until it returns to its slumber. Then I hide the remote so nobody disturbs the dumb thing. #tv#smarttv
@davidaugust The largest shareholders of most companies are institutional investors. They vote for the board of directors. The board approves the CEO's compensation. The board of directors and the CEO are the same kind of people. They went to the same schools, belong to the same clubs, and have the same view of the working class. If the shareholders didn't approve of CEO compensation, it wouldn't be happening. But they believe it's merited. And in just the same way, they believe that the working class has earned their suffering.
Hi! I am normally not an active user, but I am definitely someone who spent countless hours watching TV shows. Since I have just recently joined Lemmy, thought I can share my all-time favorite TV shows and maybe be able to get one or two new shows and have a nice discussion about them. Here is the list:...
#scavengersreign is a rare bird, a shooting star. I was lucky enough to see it inside, work on it. Now it's re-released, let's keep this anomaly shining.
rooting and changing the OS of smart anything, especially phones, need to be at the center of the right to repair movement, not just getting access to software drivers or hardware.
PS: i have avoided activating the Roku nonsense exactly for what the article describes.
"To opt out of #Roku's ToS update, which primarily changes the "Dispute Resolution Terms," users must send a letter to Roku's general counsel in California mentioning: "the name of each person opting out and contact information for each such person, the specific product models, software, or services used that are at issue, the email address that you used to set up your Roku account (if you have one), and, if applicable, a copy of your purchase receipt."
@blogdiva Shit like this is why I pay extra for stuff without smart anything. It’s kinda funny (not in a haha way), that we now have a privacy tax in the form of non-IoT devices being more expensive than their networked alternatives.
@cybeldp@kamikat Extractive and exploitative corporations owned by a relative handful of wealthy individuals acting in extractive and exploitative ways that benefit a relative handful of wealthy individuals? Colour me surprised.
A new spinoff series titled #StarCity is also in the works. The thriller goes back to the moment the Soviets landed on the moon, exploring the story from their perspective.
A new documentary on Netflix, "The Dads," sends six men — five dads of trans kids, and Dennis Shepard, father of the late Matthew Shepard — on a fishing trip in rural Oklahoma. There, they have conversations about fatherhood and fighting to make the world safe for their kids. LGBTQ Nation's John Russell talked to director Luchina Fisher about the project.
Globally workers are striking. The days of wack-ass greedy corporations, entities and Hollywood studios exploiting workers and others with unequal bargaining power MUST END ONCE AND FOREVER. Without the workers you got NOTHING, baby. Not a pot to piss in. Or a thing to throw it out of.
One of my absolute favourite shows from my childhood, sadly cancelled after 13 episodes. There have been rumours of a reboot but nothing confirmed for a while.
Today, September 27, Quinn Mallory first enters the interdimensional portal he accidentally created in his San Francisco basement while trying to invent an antigravity device (Sliders, 1995)
So, as apparently one of the last 3 subscribers to #Netflix DVDs, I'm one of the few who gets their envelopes that all remind you, in some way, GEEZ LOOK HOW OLD YOU GOT.
Thanks for sending that out, Netflix. Thanks a lot.
This is a PSA that you need to watch the Chinese TV adaptation of #ThreeBody before you the #Netflix version. I have little confidence that Netflix or the folks who butchered Game Of Thrones will do it justice.
At least absorb the unique POV this #Cdrama offers before the Netflix defines your vision of Liu Cixin's books.
You can watch it on the WeTV, Viki apps. The first 2 eps are available on Youtube.
An anonymous Apple executive says out loud what we all suspected: they won’t deal because then they’d have to pay everyone what they’re worth for the work they do, and DGA’s proposed deal leaves them unprotected from replacement.
More on busting the “all actors are just rich and greedy” myth in the piece from The Wrap linked below. A highlight (lowlight?):
“Earlier this month, ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ star Mark Proksch also told TheWrap that his residuals from ‘The Office’ are more than all the residuals he’s earned from five seasons of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ combined.”
