In the years after the undisclosed trip to Alaska, Republican megadonor Paul Singer’s hedge fund has repeatedly had business before the Supreme Court. Alito has never recused himself.
I’m researching Mastodon accounts with huge follower numbers and looking for help.
In the US George Takei has over 400000 followers, in Germany Eugen Rochko has over 300000 and Jan Böhmermann nearly 200000, in the UK Stephen Fry has over 100000.
Know any other big accounts? Any over 500K? Any in #Asia? Who's big in #France, or #Spain, or #Italy, or #Argentina? Who is the most followed woman? Did most of them take their followers from Twitter?
Everyone should know Indigenous trans woman Diana Sacayán. She was a Trans Marrón woman from Tucumán, Argentina. Sacayán fought to have the Argentine gov't officially recognize trans identity on IDs. And she won in 2011! She became one of the most well known #Indigenous trans woman in Latin America.
But in 2015 she was k*IIed in 2015 in a wave of νiolence against trans women. Even the president demanded an investigation. The assaiIant was then jailed in 2018.
Here's an old pic I took of the snow-capped Llullaillaco #volcano, as seen at #sunset from ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. The volcano itself sits at the border between #Chile and #Argentina. I love the colour contrast between the ochre expanse of the Atacama #Desert and the white #snow covering the volcano!
After the announcing new repressions, reduction of retirement funds for all the population, layouts of hundreds from several institutions including, national airline company and disabilities agency, the autocrat #Milei just started closing press organizations and censoring journalists. The buildings are getting militarized.
Argentina has elected an extreme anarcho-capitalist as their next president. He’s fueled by far-right conspiracy theories and a hatred of the left. Plus, he seems to hear voices in his head.
Mass murderer and War Criminal Henry Kissinger is finally dead!
He won the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Lê Đức Thọ, for their work in orchestrating a ceasefire in the Vietnam War. Two Nobel Prize committee members resigned in protest. During his diplomatic career, Kissinger was involved in orchestrating and/or supporting the Chilean coup and Pinochet dictatorship (over 3,000 killed); the Argentine Dictatorship (up to 30,000 killed); the Pakistani genocide in Bangladesh (3 million killed); and the Genocide in East Timor (up to 300,000 killed).
Argentina’s decision to join the BRICS is facing backlash at home, with two leading presidential candidates criticizing members of the group of major emerging market economies, and one of them vowing to pull the South American country from the bloc altogether.
In the profoundly remote Argentina desert, at over 12,000 feet high, and in a place where no roads go, scientists found an exotic world new to science.
Mashable reports: "The unique ecosystem might be a glimpse into Earth, billions of years ago, when primitive organisms first appeared on our planet."
Meanwhile in #Argentina, the so-called "libertarian" president Javier Milei just banned gender-neutral and feminist language (-e, -x) in all official communications of the federal government.
This applies also to Argentina's public broadcasters and federally-run cultural institutions such as Telam, RNA, CCK and Tecnopolis.
This follows his recent decree to abolish #INADI (National Institute against Discrimination, Racism and Xenophobia), the anti-discrimination enforcement agency.
"On his first day of his visit to Israel, Argentina’s new president, Javier Milei, told Israeli authorities that his country would move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Milei had vowed during his campaign to move the embassy from its current home in Herzliya, in a sign that Argentina recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital."

"The fires have ravaged thousands of hectares of forest since Friday, cloaking coastal cities in a dense fog of grey smoke and forcing people to flee their homes in the central regions of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso.
As Chile and Colombia battle rising temperatures, the heatwave is also threatening to sweep over Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in the coming days."
