Hello! This is my post.

I've just set up this account as the server I was on seems to have died. I will have to figure out how to re-follow the interesting folks I'd found there.

I'm mum to a very queer and neurodiverse little family. We love playing and watching together. We also love sharing food, facts and stories with each other.

I work on stuff for a trust, and I also help .

The same week that Nora Roberts made a donation to EveryLibrary Institute, her books were banned in schools in Florida!

Now she's challenging you to join her by participating in the by making a tax-deductible donation to fight against book bans and challenging your friends to do the same.

We writers have writing slumps, but do readers ever go through reading slumps? Tell us about your last one.

fenriswitch,

@queerscifi
as former heavy reader and now writing my 1st SiFa novel I use to get over slumps with an e-book reader who use TTS to read it to my e.g., on driving my car. It's a good thingy if ye are re-reading your own texts to edit them later at home, using bookmarks to find the spots for edition again.

I have had several fellow over the past few years tell me that I should keep my to myself lest I offend a potential reader.

So, here's the thing.

My books almost all contain an overarching theme of the ill effects of and . They show the roles of women throughout history, and the challenges they faced due to societal constraints. Three of my heroines deal with health issues (two physical, one mental).

Nothing changes for marginalized people if we "keep our politics to ourselves" as artists. We need to tell our stories, yes ... but we also need to stand up for those whose stories are being quashed by more powerful folks with harmful agendas.

So, no. I won't be keeping my politics to myself any time soon. My right will find me, and they will understand.

I've decided to read (at least) one short story a day (or 365+ stories in total) for 2023.
I'll keep track here, with links to works and authors when possible. Because an Internet without useless personal lists is not an Internet I want to be a part of.

Is there a group on Mastodon that provides any support to self-published ? I mean, even as readers to help find good self-published authors?

I find most book club type groups are very focused on supporting authors that are from traditional publishers. There's nothing wrong with that, but I find they almost all shy away from supporting self-published authors. I almost never see the good self-published authors mentioned.

Hello! I forgot to add an so here goes…

I’m a journalist, and living near London, UK. I thought I’d grab my place here before the rest of Twitter appears. Though it’s not easy to find people I know!

At the blue bird site, I tweet about books, writing, crochet, nature and Jewish stuff. So I guess I’ll cover similar topics here. My murder mystery debut novel is called The Redeemer.
