Trainerroad gets it. Trainerroad is a training app that uses an "AI". Well, an algorithm that measures what you do, and what you should do when exercising. But they also know it's not the be all and end all.

hankg, to swimming

Since my post-reboot fitness routine has a lot of cycling and running I figured maybe I'll add swimming and try for a triathlon. In the past I was amazed at how much more gassed swimming made me feel. I figured it was because it is such a full body exercise or inefficient technique due to being very rusty. Looking at the breathing technique issues brought up here I think it could be a bit of that too. Still TBD if I'm going to add swimming in as a regular workout but if I do I'm going to rewatch this. #swimming #fitness #exercise #training
Why Am I Exhausted After Swimming 50m!?

hankg, to Fitness

When I started ramping up my exercise last year I latched on to the 20-40 grams per meal number. One thing that didn't make sense was the notion that the body doesn't use much of the >40 grams for muscle building. I follow some one-meal-a-day body builders and it is clear that they are. This is a deep dive into more recent research. TL;DR: for muscle building/maintaining efficacy all that really matters is eating enough protein/essential amino acids. Timing, sources, etc. is more of a marginal difference at best. Better to do what works for you sustainably.

Healthy lifestyles are associated with better cognitive function in older adults — even those whose brains show signs of dementia, according to research published in JAMA Neurology last month. The study suggests a healthy lifestyle could buffer older adults against cognitive decline and boost their “cognitive reserve.”

2/ This snowshoeing trip marked a milestone for me—it was the first time that I have summited a mountain on snowshoes. It was only several years ago that I first hit the wintry mountain trails by snowshoe. Going solo and without formal instruction, I proceeded extremely cautiously, doing many repetitions on easier, moderate-slope trails and only going relatively short distances, turning around well before a summit. Take caution resuming your fitness routine after COVID, RSV or influenza, experts say | CNN.com

No matter which virus you had, wait at least 5 to 7 days after recovering before packing your gym bag. You also should be able to do all of your daily activities without excessive fatigue.

“Your body, heart and lungs need to recover,” Turner said. “You don’t want to push it too early and then have complications.”

If you had Covid accompanied by heart- or lung-related symptoms such as chest pain or difficulty breathing, the American College of Cardiology recommends seeing your physician before resuming exercise. And if Covid caused you to develop myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, the ACC guidelines say to abstain from exercising for 3 to 6 months.

Got very dizzy, black vision, etc while riding today. Had to sit down and recover. Got home and tested BP, and I’m waaaay lower than usual. Still within the normal range, but a low lower than MY normal.

Ooh. I've set a new personal best! What's yours?

It's not a fitness workout, it's so I can stand & move.

Besides a few grunts & groans, I do this stretch every morning. I balance on 1-foot, pull my other knee to my chest, hold it, balanced on 1-foot, for 2 mins

I do have slightly different strength in one knee, than the other, & if I am distracted, I'll fall over 😆

Good for a squirrel to stay nimble as he ages. (No Names Mentioned) ok, it's Tim.

Buying a training/exploring/smart watch just over a year ago was probably the smartest move I've made in regards to my own health in a long time. Because that has made me a lot more active through gameifications and analytics about my health and fitness. I have registered over 400 activities and biked, skied, ran and walked over 4 454km.
