Did you know that one in wants to know if you - actually - like ?

Robert Nozick, a , wanted you to imagine that you are offered a sophisticated machine which can perfectly simulate all the things you deem most pleasurable.

He asks you now: would you prefer this to real life?

Nozick assumes you don't & uses that as a justification against () hedonists.

Apparently your mastodon posts show up on Lemmy under the right circumstances (tagging a Lemmy community). 🤞

Edit: if I remove the tagging, will the post magically disappear from Lemmy too?

🆕 blog! “This link is only available by keyboard navigation”

There's a link, right here ➡️⬅️ but, if you're on a touchscreen, you can't tap on it. Using a mouse? Nope, that won't work either. The only way to navigate to it is via keyboard navigation. Hit your Tab ⭾ button! There's a little bit of me wants to build an entire website which can […]

My little potting station. I planted out some tomatoes in full soil but I planted two in a pot as well, just for the fun of the experiment.

I love to experiment in nature. Trying new stuff because I don't know exactly how it works and then finding out how it works, and why or why not.

Who here would be interested in a full body profile pic style?

Specifications would be the same as my current commissions and supplied as a 1000x1000px PNG, but would start at a higher price.

If there is enough interest, I will launch these in the new year.

Did you know that the first man-made dye was meant to cure ?

William Perkin's teacher theorised that quinine, a treatment for malaria, could be synthesized.

Inspire, the 15-year-old set out to do so. His home produced an odd sludge.

He tried to dye some with it & found it beautiful & lasting!

He got a , raised capital & soon, was wearing his invention. He got with mauve.

BONUS MYSTERY! https://researchoutreach.org/articles/mystery-victorian-purple-dye/

This is a photo of a small piece of silk fabric dyed with mauveine supplied to Queen Victoria for a dress about 1860. It shows a wooden mid-brown frame which holds a coarse homespun fabric, on which a square piece of bright mauve silk is secured. Underneath the square swatch is a coiled silk rope, also in a vivid mauve colour.

Starting tomorrow, I will do my best to have Social Media Detox weekends, which means I will not use any social media on Saturdays and Sundays, including chat modules such as Facebook Messenger.

And to be fair, Mastodon and Calckey are also included in this experiment. Join me if you want, and let's share our experiences on Monday.

Recently we had too many apples and to avoid wasting them I tried adding one grated to our coleslaw.

It's yummy! Have you tried it??

So, I was reading about Jackson Pollock and how he used house and car paint for some of his bigger paintings. So, I said to myself, “self, there’s a big ol hardware store with sample size jars.” So I tried it. It almost worked. If I hadn’t been manipulating the paint, maybe? Maybe I need to lighten the weight? I dunno. It cracked when it dried, but it almost worked! Back, as it were, to the proverbial drawing board.

Today, I'll be conducting more experiments with snac2. Until yesterday, I had been running it with 16 threads.
Today, I'll try with 32 to observe the load and how it responds when posting while simultaneously using the web interface. With 16 threads, there was a (slight) slowdown during queue processing; let's see if things change with 32.
I'll also delve into some more niche aspects - I've noticed a couple of details regarding boosts that don't always seem to be displayed by Mastodon (a behavior I've also encountered on Pixelfed).
I'll investigate.

Stay tuned!

Interesting, to build a new hive by forcing bees to develop queens from a "known good" queen appears to have spurred development of 8 (!) queen cells. Now we're going to try to catch 8 virgin queens before they all run away (hopefully for replacements for some less tame queens, if necessary).

a) Einmal!
b) Zweimal!
c) Dreimal!

Keep Going & Sapere Aude!

Can you guess the song's name? 🎶

As a random Friday experiment, I took the lyrics of a popular 90s song and asked ChatGPT to come up with images inspired by the text (wow, 90s texts were dark).

Now, it's your turn to guess its name. Have fun!

Moderate success for a post- (had a Dx 1.5 years ago, cleared the A1c back to normal a year ago) lemonade.

My body tolerates Monkfruit and allulose as non-blood-sugar- spiking sweeteners.

Tried a 1:1:3 ratio of Monkfruit-allulose, lemon juice, and water and came up with a pretty tasty lemonade.

The lemon juice (for a half cup) is only like 2g of sugar and 7g carbs.

Playing around with small LLM's on my very old laptop using Llamafile , all those models are totally unreliable, hallucinate a lot. Not surprising if you think about how relatively small they are, my resources etc. This is fun to play around with and you can easily change the settings use another model etc. As a learning experience great, for practical use i will stick with ChatGPT4 .
