There is a "hands off" feeling about the #DOJ's response to #AileenCannon, and I can't get beyond the belief that something about her is being #CoveredUp.
"Influential author and broadcaster #HubertSeipel received financial support for his work on two books described by many as sympathetic to #Russian president..."
#Israel is murdering journalists and their families intentionally to silence the #news. Everyone in Gaza is registered with the Israeli government and they know where they live. The world clearly doesn’t care.
> [UPDATED 13.11.2023] At least thirty-four Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed, several have been injured and others are missing during the war in Gaza.
@flexghost@enoch. True & awful. I wrote about it this a.m..: "Abortion rights advocates have focused their messaging on 'personal freedom' and the 'right to make your own personal medical decisions without the government getting involved,' while also highlighting personal stories." The #Republicans say the debate about #abortion is re: messaging; the #Democrats re: policy. By editing the pro-choice consultant's words, the #journalist takes the #GOP position inserting "focused their messaging."
With more than 30 years of experience in journalism, I couldn't be prouder of our next generation of journalists - it's a noble profession!

every #politician who claims #israel has a right to 'defend itself', every #celebrity who reposts israel-sympathetic statements, every hand-wringing #liberal who refuses to take a stance because 'it's just too complex', every #zionist who fearmongers about this turning into a second #holocaust, every western #journalist who insists on asking their #palestinian guests "but do you condemn #hamas?" — in fact any #person who wants to comment on the situation at all should be forced to read this article in full before they're allowed to voice their opinion.
at the end of the article, there is a 338-page list of the names of the palestinians who have been killed by #israeli forces from october 7th-25th. the first six pages are for the age '0'.

❓Are you a #SciComm practitioner or #researcher, a #scientist interested in scicomm, a #journalist or someone keen for greater citizen engagement with research?
The EU-funded project #COALESCE aims to build a competence center for #ScienceCommunication. They have now opened registrations to join their Community of Practice:
Great #FollowFriday (well, it's Friday somewhere...) recommendation: Miguel Otárola, who was the climate reporter for NPR/Colorado Public Radio, and did a great job during the Marshall Fire helping the community get news on what was going on. He's switched gears to music and immigration now, if you have any suggestions for follows for him (music, Colorado, immigration, ?) -- @motarola --see his intro below. Let's reconnect him into the community here! #journalism#journalist#musichttps://ravenation.club/@motarola/111298982628820457
They are a new breed of #journalist ; daring, determined and tech-savvy, #freelance#ForeignCorrrespondents fill the void left by a #MainstreamMedia retreating from international news coverage. #IndependentJournalist Bill Gentile introduces us to the workplace of his fellow freelancers in #Mexico , where the so-called #WarOnDrugs has left at least 175,000 people dead in the last decade, and 104 journalists murdered since the year 2000.
"At least 24 journalists have been killed...the Committee to Protect Journalists" said today. "20 were Palestinian, three were Israeli & one was Lebanese."
CPJ's "latest tally is most likely an undercount, as CPJ officials say they are also investigating at least 100 additional reports of journalists killed, missing, detained or threatened. Among those cases are reports of damage done to journalists' offices & homes"
So we just need to be clear ... we can loathe Hamas and at the same time be CONSISTENT about whether it is okay for governments to kill #journalists.
If the murder of #JamalKhashoggi bothers us, but the murder of 20+ #Palestinian#Journalist s DOESN'T bother us, maybe we need to check the mirror and see if we like the person we see there.
@Mastodon seriously? You are the very last people I'd expect to censor #Palestinian#media. Are you really that desperate to become like #Twitter or mainstream social media? I really hope that this is a sincere mistake, and that whoever pressed that #suspend button is reprimanded. This gives a very wrong signal to #Palestinians and independent #journalists / #press people who are seeking a friendly platform for their voices in the #fediverse.
If you dear reader are reading this post, please boost both Mondoweiss's original post (which will be displayed as a RE: link if you're in #Mastodon) to show your support for @mondoweiss as well as this quote #boost so that it may reach mastodon.social (because for all we know they could decide to just #fediblock their self-hosted instance altogether, thankfully that didn't happen yet and it's an account suspension for now)
A court in #Russia has ordered a #journalist to be detained for another three days, after she was accused of acting as "a foreign agent." #AlsuKurmasheva, (detained on Wednesday), holds Russian and American citizenship, and works in Prague for the US-funded, Radio Free Europe. Laws brought in under President #Putin require anyone working for a foreign company or government to register their presence. But Ms Kurmasheva has said she came to Russia to deal with a family emergency.
