While the above examples can be used for images, Pixelfed was built for, well, images. It was made to cater for uploading photos ah sharing your digital artworks.
Meanwhile, Bookwyrm is best for, can you guess it? #Books! It features bookshelves where you can categorise your collection. You can also track your reading. Leave reviews. #Authors can too, if they want.
It's no different to comparing the old #Twitter vs #Facebook vs #Instagram vs #Goodreads. All of it can host photos and albums, but Instagram is focused on sharing images. Twitter for #microblogging. Facebook for socialising (or ads). Goodreads for books and reviews.
The difference? The latter are disconnected. While the former, the fediverse, are interoperable.
The #fandoms on #Twitter are definitely having a very hard time. I think this is a very good opportunity for #Tumblr to launch their #ActivityPub integration and open their platform to the #fediverse.
Fandoms, especially Asian ones, are familiar with Tumblr already. Tumblr can position themselves as the new place for fandom content.
Some of you follow me because I’ve been around the #fediverse since 2017 as an admin and discourser for that time.
I think the pledge against #meta is probably good! There’s no evidence that meta has ever cared about the web, and they will pick the bones clean of anything they touch. Block on site, good hunting.
If a similar pledge comes around for #tumblr, I’ll probably be against it. There IS evidence that they want to be good neighbors on the web, and I’m willing to give them a chance.
When looking at the recent history of many popular and highly successful online sites, there tends to be a certain trend they’re all following: rampant corporate greed butting heads with its original core mission and its user base, all of which eventually leads to major issues for the site.
#Prediction: if #Threads follows through with #Fediverse support by using #ActivityPub, and especially if #Wordpress and #Tumblr join the party, #ATProtocol will be all but dead. AP will be the standard for social online, regardless of any benefits of AT. #BlueSky will effectively die with it, unless they switch to AP (unlikely as then they’d just be one instance amongst many). Threads joining the Fediverse would hurt BlueSky (and to some degree #Twitter) a lot more than it would hurt #Mastodon.
Amazing, they did an entire UI/UX update on Tumblr and it looks like Twitter. One is a blogging service and the other is a microblogging service. Having this new layout just feels weird. I can get used to it, but I don't feel like being reminded of the birdsite whenever I'm on Tumblr. #SocialMedia#Tumblr
My best option for fandom related stuff is Tumblr, but I'm not really sure which is better for art (Tumblr or Threads?) and I dunno which is better for general usage: #Bluesky, #Mastodon, #Threads or #Tumblr
(Side note: Never did get much traction for my art on Tumblr or Twitter/X so idk)
Mastodon, I love you. But we gotta up our game cause #Tumblr is on fire right now with their #Twitter roasting. Yes, Tumblr. Check them out too and give ‘em a high five.
I am surprised that #Tumblr is bigger than #Threads by #Instagram. Both promised to embrace #ActivityPub soonish, but the former might be the real heavyweight.

I posted a digital altar for Zeus as a test video for a collaborative project. Thoughts? If liked, I plan to make one for many of the gods to allow people to use their phones as digital altars when needing to be discreet. Posted on Tumblr as a test run.
I would not be surprised if #Automattic (the company behind #WordPress) will shut down #Tumblr in five years, as the user base does not understand how much it costs to run a social network.
They want everything awesome for free, & that is unsustainable.
