Anyone in the Quincy, Massachusetts (US) area looking for a bike buddy? 20 miles or less as a rule (for now anyways). Slow pace for sure. I work a 9-5 schedule so best to.assume weekends...

Boosts appreciated

Just heard beloved Boston WGBH music presenter Brian O'Donovan — on an encore broadcast of his "Celtic Sojourn" — discussing old guard vs. new guard in Irish traditional music. He capped it with this perfect line from Gustav Mahler:

"Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire."

silver lining: it was awfully thoughtful of all these boston college administrations to draw the attention of a group of young, energetic, politically active students to last year's "tent ordinance" that cruelly targets the unhoused and is now being used to crack down on speech

I'm in a group of COVID-cautious area folks who organize COVID-safe outings to private theater showings. Everyone who attends is fully vaccinated and symptom-free, takes a rapid test beforehand, and wears a good mask for the entire movie. If you're interested, go to https://groups.google.com/g/boston-covid-safe-movies and click "Join group" near the top. We're currently organizing a Barbie outing; if you'd like to participate, see "COVID-safe Barbie showing" once you've joined the group.

Interesting analysis coming from Lexington, Mass.: by slashing the price of a year-round bus pass to $20 from as much as $260, the City gained ridership while retaining roughly the same revenue

So for those of you who live in places where hurricanes arrive more frequently, what advice do you have for us?
