Hi, I'm Laura and I study #pollen, reconstructing prehistoric #landscapes, using #FT-IR #microspectroscopy to identify grass pollen and also enjoy using different coding languages such as #R and #Python ^.^
My hobbies include #DJ ing, watching #anime and collecting #Pokemon cards (thrilling I know). Very happy to be here :3
Note that this will initially be an experiment. As such, the SC is reserving its right to drop the experiment if it becomes too burdensome to support (both in CPython and in the community in general, including lack of uptake). So for all of those who have been asking for the GIL to be removed, this is very much a "put up or shut up" situation for the community to show they support this.
Folks, if you parrot opinions like "PHP is an insecure language" or "PHP has inherent security flaws" in 2024, and you can't point to specific issues with modern, current versions of PHP to back it up, all you are doing is demonstrating your ignorance.
The fact is, modern #PHP is every bit as secure, solid and performant a server-side #programming platform as #Node, #Python, or many other popular languages.
Hey, I am a software developer and data scientist with experience in both fields. I mostly have experience in #python and #kotlin and some experience in #rust . I am really struggling to get hired anywhere because of my lack of diploma from my higher education, even though I (provably) have the skills to work anyway.
If anyone has any pointers or places I can go to I'd love to hear it. I'd love to work in either a data science job or open source software development, either locally in the central or west Netherlands or remote. Please help me get #FediHired spread this around if you want to. If you want more info and have a job opening I can DM my CV.
Wow. Meta commits to dedicate three engineer-years to implement the removal of the GIL from #Python and fix upcoming compatibility and performance issues with it.
All this dependent on whether the Steering Council accepts PEP 703.
#JeRecrute Un de mes clients a un besoin pour un cours en distanciel de #Python sécurité le 26/27. Est-ce que quelqu'un a un cours déjà prêt sur le sujet ?
The University of Colorado Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is hiring software engineers for science data processing on the Data Systems team. We build satellite borne instruments for studying astrophysics, planetary science, earth science, atmospheric science, and many more disciplines. Data Systems typically does the ground processing of the instrument data from binary packets through to research quality science data products (think netCDF, HDF5, CDF, FITS files). Mostly we use Python but we have some Java systems and C experience is always a plus for making Python faster.

I'm looking for a new job (remote or #PDX), please boost!
I am a research software engineer with 11 years experience developing interdisciplinary scientific software that is robust, #accessible, and user-friendly.
To those who follow this account for #Covid rants and politely tolerate my posts about the wonderful and elegant #Python programming language I’ve used almost daily for over a decade: The #pycon2024 conference required masks because they apparently haven’t stopped caring about the people behind the keyboards.
Yes, masks. In 2024. At a tech conference. It’s a beautiful thing.
If you maintain a package, now is probably a good time to grep your source code for utcnow and utcfromtimestamp to get out ahead of the deprecation warnings. 📅🕐
Anybody out there looking for an ML or software engineer with >30 years total experience and ~20 years in the industry?
I have extensive experience with #Python and #ML frameworks, particularly #TensorFlow, and I've worked on #NLP and #ImageProcessing both in the workplace and in personal open source projects. My resume is available here:
🔒📂 @brettcannon has just posted his new proposal to standardise lock files in Python:
"Two years since PEP 665 was rejected and three years since I started working towards some lock file solution, I present my next (and last regardless of outcome) attempt at coming up with a lock file standard."
