The most thing I ever did was then I took out the trashes in mid winter.

I literally skipped down the stairs of the apartment building I lived in without noticing that I did not have keys or shoes on. Dropped my trashes. Walked back to the back door, and tried to yank it open. Not just once, mind you. At least 3 times.

So I RAN to my friend's place in a light blizzard, dressed in my loose t-shirt and sweatpants, to get my spare key and spare shoes.

I was undiagnosed for a long time.

People don't bitch about enough. Seriously. What are you afraid of?

I've been on it since I was a youngster. It has become next to impossible to get the Rx filled these days. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I have an accredited doctor who I happen to convene with via Telehealth. She's part of my whole clinical network/ insurance company, .

refuses to fill the script because it's a Dr.

This comes as a surprise because
1.) I've had the Rx filed by Walmart off-and-on over the past 20 years or so.
2.) I had no issues with / no idea that this was "a thing"

Now closer to a WM pharm vs the prev CVS, it made sense to have this month sent here
(Adderall patients are forced through this rigmarole every 30 days).

Why don't more people bitch? Haven't you been affected?

Learned a new word for a thing I do.

What do you think of it @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd ?

AGNOSTHESIA

n. the state of not knowing how you really feel about something, which forces you to sift through clues hidden in your own behavior, as if you were some other person — noticing a twist of acid in your voice, an obscene amount of effort you put into something trifling, or an inexplicable weight on your shoulders that makes it difficult to get out of bed.

rebekka_m,

@lifewithtrees @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd for me Agnosthesia covers my own indecisive feelings and behaviors better than Alexithymia... So thanks for digging this one out!

It's not only the not knowing HOW I feel but even how TO feel. I need learning on both fronts!

@actuallyautistic I'm in the process of switching one of my meds to another one because my inattention was starting to get bad. I was really apprehensive because it's switching from one selective reuptake inhibitor to another, and withdrawal symptoms for that can be pretty intense. But within a few hours of the first dose I could pay attention to things again and my thoughts started to seem more related to each other. No withdrawal symptoms yet (knock on wood). I'm just so happy about it!

GLFC,
@GLFC@mstdn.starnix.network avatar

@RL_Dane Eh, sorry, it wasn't meant as a personal attack. I just see what's happening to kids today and it infuriates me. Kids that are just like I was as a kid are being shoved onto medication and told they have all of these mental illnesses, and are definitely part of a unique and special sexual community.

I still carry the scars from my school years - bullied for any number of causes, real and imagined. Learning to deal with that kind of thing is often part of becoming an adult. Nowadays a kid in that position is fed mental health propaganda, shoved into some LGBT club, and pumped full of drugs and medical experiments instead of learning to cope and becoming confident in the truth.

I get it. There is a lot of learned helplessness in this generation, and it's a real pity.

in personal late-diagnosis comorbidity news, I've have a diagnosis for , aka "Persistent Depressive Disorder”

> As dysthymia is a chronic disorder, those with the condition may experience symptoms for many years before it is diagnosed, if diagnosis occurs at all. As a result, they may believe that depression is a part of their character, so they may not even discuss their symptoms with doctors, family members or friends.

I think this is going to be as big as the ADHD diagnosis

My very first computer was a Gateway PC, back when they shipped them to you in those awesome cow spot pattern boxes. I am trying to de-google my life.

I'm and suffer from . I'm currently unmedicated. I can be damned moody at times, so there's your warning.

Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. Not everybody's thing is my thing, and that's cool. Just don't be a wanker towards those whose thing ain't your thing. OM 🕉

fu,

Two factor authentication is the bane of my existence. It is ! I misplace all the time. This may be related to my but maybe not since that hasn’t improved since my doctor put me on Vyvanse while everything else in my life more-or-less has. From a security standpoint I get it, but I do get so concerned about how much of one’s identity is tied to your phone these days. Not only does that hurt people who chose not to have a cell phone, but how easy is it for me to lose everything if someone else steals my cell phone.

In fact Facebook requiring me to activate to continue to utilize my account was the primary driving factor between me using Friendica as my primary social media now rather than Facebook, even though I first joined the ‘verse back in 2011, when it was called simply open source microblogging and was pretty much just identi.ca/feeds/7gqal0c2pesei9… (if you had an account there, it still works BTW and @evan has indicated he plans to integrate ActivityPub by this summer, after its previous protocols, StatusNet and Pump.io, have fell out of favor). @passwords @neurodiverse @netsec @ADHD

@skinnylatte I feel this, for sure! My ADHD, in particular, has been as bad as it's ever been, lately. I'm not sure if this is from burnout or just that I'm in prime mid-life crisis territory.

I have been dealing with it by taking the time to appreciate my successes in the face of the difficulty. Today, I was proud of my patient parenting while stuck at home all day with a sick, temperamental toddler.

According to the non-ADHD specialist psychiatrist, I most likely don't have , instead I should change my lifestyle.
That will definitely change my inability to focus at work or hyperfocus depending on how I feel and depending on the task, my inability to organize my time, and everything else what's cockblocking my life, right?

avi,
@avi@chitter.xyz avatar

Health professionals should diagnose based on memes you relate to (while talking about them more) instead of their shitty tests, and I'm actually serious

avi,
@avi@chitter.xyz avatar

Would changing my lifestyle make my ADHD more tolerable? Very likely.
Am I able to do that? Absolutely the fuck not. I can barely get out of bed sometimes.

purrsnikitty,
@purrsnikitty@dragonscave.space avatar

A common tip I see given to people with is to keep things within line of sight, such as placing produce on the shelves of a fridge rather than in a drawer. My understanding is that to be visible is to be less easily forgotten about.

I often struggle with following through on small tasks that (theoretically) are easier when someone can see that something is out of place: a cabinet left open while putting away dishes, a cooking ingredient left on the counter, a plant in need of watering, etc. Do or people have any tricks you use to help with this sort of thing?

These are just some random little examples, but hopefully my general point is clear. I know that being able to see something does not automatically equate to it being easier, but since line of sight is so common within ADHD advice spaces, I figured I'd ask if there are any blindness specific tips and tricks. 😊

miki,
@miki@dragonscave.space avatar

@purrsnikitty Not sure if I actually have ADHD (very well might but not diagnosed), but what I sometimes end up doing is deliberately misplacing a common item I know I'll need, in a way that reminds me to do something.

Hypothetical example. You want to remember to pick up the trash before going out. You know you'll need your bag and won't go out without it. Your bag is usually under your desk. Put it in your dresser (where it never goes).

miki,
@miki@dragonscave.space avatar

@purrsnikitty My favorite version of this trick is leaving my laptop open as wide as it can be whenever I'm downloading something and don't want to accidentally interrupt the process by closing the lid, something which I very often do.
