I know this is a long-shot, but it occurred to me as I prepare for yet another shift at a retail store giving it literally everything I've got and then some (and ending up with a sleep deficit and feeling so exhausted I can barely crawl to bed) for a whopping $15/hr, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone has any leads for a position.

It turns out a great deal of my prior experience was of similar activities. I'm working on my "google certificate" as a data analyst but tbh progress has been incredibly slow as I deal with one life issue after another. This is also costly for me since there's a monthly fee through the 3rd-party provider hosting the google courses.

Yes.. I'm asking to skip ahead to the part where I'm no longer earning starvation wages anymore.

So.. if anyone knows of any sort of apprenticeships for a -related job, please DM me.

The plotting, statistical, and data selection tools in the mapdata.py data explorer (https://pypi.org/project/mapdata/) can be used even if you don't have any map data. Just add dummy latitude and longitude values to the data table. Zeroes will do. The map and the dummy columns can both be hidden, and you can then explore the data table with the other available tools.

In my data analysis and visualization course, we're ending the semester discussing network analysis. We spent last week talking about where to find network data and how to build a network dataset to use with networkx in python. This week, we're looking deeper at plotting and analytical questions about networks. This is an example using the New Zealand Legislation Network data (source: https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataset.xhtml?persistentId=doi:10.7910/DVN/TZOJBU).

A 🧵 by @badlogic about his data analysis of over the past several years in .

Don't think it isn't relevant to you if you don't live there, because it probably is. It certainly reflects trends many people have posted about in the and the , and I would bet it applies elsewhere, as well.

The store chains use tricks of on-site , , and frequent shopper reward schemes, making it nearly impossible to know the real prices of items over time, and allowing companies to creep prices upwards unchecked. But this method clarifies how so many corporate profits increased so much post-Covid.

Take the time to read the whole thread. It's fascinating-- and eye opening.

stefan, to fediverse
@stefan@stefanbohacek.online avatar

I know some fediverse apps use various text/image detection technologies, so I was curious if this encourages the use of alt text.

The main thing I learned: Out of nearly 30,000 fediverse posts I looked at, almost 80% did not have information about the client app.

That was a bit surprising. And it makes doing this sort of analysis difficult.

stefan,
@stefan@stefanbohacek.online avatar

You can still see some trends, for example, people who use Ivory for iOS posted 49% of their images with alt text, compared to Mastodon's 17.8% for Android and 20% for iOS users.

But I am not sure if there is enough data to draw solid conclusions.
