📣 Did you know that my Follow Friday posts I call "Discover The Fediverse" includes a thoughtful message and further details on each software highlight on the website? Why not check out one right now?
@tiram Well, this differs depending what app / website you use to browse #Mastodon, but I see you are using #Tusky. According to their website, you click the hashtag when you see it and then tap the “follow” icon at the top right of the hashtag page.
It's hard to imagine #StackOverflow made their decision without considering the fate #Twitter and #Reddit suffered. That they willingly chose to burn the remaining goodwill they had with their users is bewildering.
Although #mastodon is the elephant in the room (see what I did there), the #fediverse is way more than just that. I want to look at other ways to engage with the wider Fediverse, just for fun and my own education. I have a #pixelfed account that I never use but maybe I'll move all my image posting to it and just repost it here, etc. Still mulling.
"A Perfect Resting Place"
Walking a beautiful pathway through the historic Laudholm Farm Preserve in Wells, Maine, there is a cool bite to the air reminding me of the upcoming cold days of the upcoming winter...
As a fun little experiment, @damon and I worked together to get a #Mastodon instance up and running that stores media on #IPFS! It was an interesting learning experience.
I don’t think we’re ready to announce anything yet, as this was in service of another project in development. But, there’s an increasing number of ways to host content on an IPFS node service, and tie it back to platforms like Mastodon using an S3-compatible API for Object Storage and some proxying.
This is all pretty rudimentary, but the big-brain realization is that a more robust version could be done by pairing Minio to s3x if we wanted to self-host an IPFS node with those specific features.
First toot was a single 'loose' top-level toot, second one above to the #emoji thread, but no emoji showing in #Mastodon at all in both of these. And opening the link to your toot, leads to a login page on NodeBB.
Well. I moved SSDs between two boxes. I kept a HD behind (it only has rsync and backuppc stuff on it). The one that was to be my new Linux work PC, this one, came up fine.
The box with my #mastodon instance and a chat room on it decided it should boot to MacOS. And so it did.
Clover is still installed.
Where is the Linux boot partition?
Was another drive hiding?
I have mysteries to sort through. Meanwhile, my private instance is down.
Not sure if this is a #Mastodon feed issue or client issue, but I really wish there was a way to not display trending links to walled content (NYT etc). Filters don't seem to take these link cards into account either...
I’m hoping this gets to the right folks who can point me to an #AuDHD#neurodivergent and #actuallyautistic friendly #instance on #mastodon ? One that is welcoming and focused if possible on the adult experience as opposed to a parenting group focused on kids.🙏
When I joined the #fediverse via my own Mastodon instance back in 2018 (and with an identi.ca, status.net, pump.io history going far back), I never thought of it as a Twitter, Facebook etc alternative. I saw it as a new planet. A fresh approach to build a real social network. I still look at it that way. I want to explore new possibilities. Try new things. Escape the gravity well of the "old", centralised networks. Find a better orbit. That is why I block threads.net on my instance. #justsayin

#justsayin I’m so glad that #mastodon.social does not block threads.net. It allows me to see #Biden posts directly. A “real social network” should not exclude parts of society that want in. No one who wants to “explore new possibilities” should shut others out
