It's #PrideMonth! #Pride
To celebrate June, I'm going to recommend 1 #queer book every day, one that I liked and would love to have more appreciation for out there in the world!
Looks like this month is disability pride month. And I'm not sure what that really means. How can I be proud to be blind? How can I be proud that people have to do extra work to support me in digital spaces? How can I be proud that I cannot drive? How can I be proud that the only way I can enjoy pictures is through others' hard work, or a blurry AI that might add things or take away things from the description? How can I be proud of being locked into proprietary operating systems due to many developers not even knowing about FOSS accessibility, let alone considering it? How can I be proud that, for most blind people, to read Braille digitally costs $700 or more, outside the US? How can I be proud of the fact that my mobility and orientation skills aren't very good and that I have to be shown a route from my home to the mailbox across the street? Or that if I'm not using Braille, I have headphones in all the time, signaling to sighted people that I am not to be disturbed and thus haulting interaction? Having so few apps, out of the millions of them, that I can use? That so many blind people feel that they have to just be grateful for what we have, and not push forward? I don't know. I am not proud to be blind. I would accept vision in a heartbeat. I'd look at all the beautiful art and user interfaces and animations, drive around seeing the world, use Linux and Android, read books, even their images, see all around me and know where to go, understand people better through body language and facial expression, and play all the video games, old or new, that I want.
Okay, while this comes from Teen Vogue, it's not really about fashion. It's more about history and art. And I love it. This is a great article. There's a lot to learn here. 🏳️🌈
Xinyu Wen traveled to Thailand in June, planning a two-week vacation around Bangkok’s Pride parade. But the 28-year-old ended up staying a month and a half, soaking up the Thai capital’s thriving LBGTQ+ community.
“This #Pride Month, never forget that Klingons had #trans rights
No hostility, no confusion, no clumsy excuse-filled justification, just a quick self-correction and the exact same amount of love and respect before and after.
Cis allies: Be like Kor.” #StarTrek
It seems that some parents worry about how to explain the existence of gay and trans people to their kids.
It’s trivially easy.
“Sometimes, men love men. Sometimes, women love women. Sometimes, people find out that although they have a man’s body, they’d be happier living as a woman - or the other way around.
All these people deserve to be happy and respected, just like you.”
You are in a very small, very clean apartment. You see a #blind#gay man sitting at a desk. He is shirtless and wearing a pair of large cans. He is singing Ace Of Bass in very loud, very bad falsetto. No wonder he didn't hear your entrance. There's a glass of #wine at his right hand. His left is fidgeting with something. There are shelves above the desk. On the top, you see an AM-FM broadcast receiver, a small #HamRadio transceiver, a power outlet strip, and a small #audio recorder. You turn your attention to the laptop.

You notice a distribution of #GNU#Linux with the Mate desktop. There are three windows open. The foremost is a vlc open on a playlist. Behind this, you see two text editors and a firefox. One editor has what looks like an #introduction post for Mastodon. The other has a #DND5E character sheet, in progress. The firefox has the DND wiki. On one of two easy chairs, you see #LGBTQIA#Pride graphic tees. You realize there's nothing worth stealing, so, you quietly exit.
I spent some time on pride infinity emoji. I don’t think they’re amazing — there are just too few pixels to work with, and some of the colors don’t really pop — but nor are they awful. License: CC-NC-SA.
For #Pride Month, I'd like to mention #Babylon5. The show ran from 1993 to 1998, and made a point of not making a point of gay relationships. Susan Ivanova (serving military officer) had a lesbian affair with Talia Winters, and no other character even blinked.
Later on two straight men on a secret mission found themselves using "newlyweds" as a cover story, because two men on their honeymoon would fit right in.
The message was clear: in the future being gay is 100% unremarkable. In the 90s!
I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. This sort of behavior is not acceptable and the community should be aware of these screen names. #queer#lgbtqia#pride#autistic#adhd
