I need about a dozen new friends on here I talk to every day before I can really wean myself off the other place where all my old friends still hang out.
Free #followback Saturday from THIS GIRL, who needs a friend? 🥰🥰🥰
#Introduction I'm a writer, an artist, a huge Supernatural fan. I'm an Old, I'm #neurodivergent, and my humanity is very nearly ripe. I have two degrees in computer science, I'm a huge nerd, and I am a squee enthusiast. It doesn’t matter to me what your special interest is, I love that YOU love it.
I'm pan. Been married for ages. I support human rights, and I almost always choose kindness.
I really cherish these lazy afternoons the older I get. I'm currently drinking coffee and chilling with my Pixie dog on the couch. No further plans for the day and not really giving a shit about making any. 😏
How's it going for all my Mastodon friends and cronies, are you having a chill day too? 😎
A big hello and welcome to all the new people who've joined #blahajzone the past couple of days. It's great to have you here!
Our admins are @ada and @supakaity.
Ada leads the front of house and moderation side of Blåhaj Zone, while Kaity leads the back-end and maintains Hajkey for us & a small group of other instances.
We also have a #Lemmy server available for signups at https://lemmy.blahaj.zone and a #kbin server that's soon to be open, for those looking for #Reddit - like communities. They can also be interacted with from here or other places in the Fediverse.
We exist but being transgender also doesn’t define us, that’s not all we are. I’m a parent, a gamer, a noobie developer, an introver, I have pets and sometimes I do Live Broadcasting on Twitch. All it takes is to befriend one or two us and you’ll find that we’re people just like everyone else.
On the left, me in November of last year, about a week after realizing I was undeniably a transgender woman. On the right, me now, grateful to live every day what had once seemed an impossible dream. If you've ever wanted to instead be a girl, boy, anything between, or neither, you can. I promise it's not too late. :BlobhajTransPrideHeart:
Getting a smile out of me lately is a challenge, heart is broken still with the war in my home country. But hey, I'm starting to get back to myself and I, ah, I made some pretty things: https://www.etsy.com/shop/genderlessbyskaly/?etsrc=sdt
We often thank people for writing image descriptions here. And we should; they're awesome! So please consider this post as only applying to those awesome folks who describe their images, and those who only do not because of their own disabilities, especially if they use imagecaptionspls@a.gup.pe or the Alt4You hashtag instead:
Thank you, too, to those of you who properly tag your posts. If you use any of the below hashtags (and I hope you can forgive me for pinging them this once), thanks! Or, of course, any other image-related hashtags that I just haven't encountered yet!
They give your post more reach, of course, and that's very useful to artists. But they also make your post easily filterable. This means that sometimes, when there is a little too much of everything, I can temporarily lessen the amount of images on my timeline.
Please do not take this as proof that image descriptions are useless. They're not! I for one still very much enjoy them. There's a reason why #Caturday, #CatsOfMastodon, #DogsOfMastodon, etc. are not in the below list, though tagging those is still great! It's because I cannot imagine a day when I'd feel overwhelmed by cute animal pic descriptions.
But ... while I often want to be a part of your world, there are days when I don't feel like it. When I'd rather enjoy the text that is common to all of us, the reason I came here. Or perhaps all the cool audio stuff my friends are posting (which should also be described and hashtagged for deaf and hard of hearing folks!) Filtering allows me to do that on a platform that doesn't support blocking media, while still recieving some images that I am interested in, and not having to mute any of you wonderful people.
I know "thank you for letting me filter and ignore your stuff" is not the kindest statement, but ... yeah, still. #art, #BelieveInFilm, #Blendsday, #Bloomscrolling, #EyeContact, #drawing, #FernFriday, #florespondence, #illustration, #image, #lichenSubscribe, #MacroPhotography, #MastoArt, #NaturePhotography, #painting, #PhonePhotography, #photo, #photography, #picture, #selfie, #SilentSunday, #StreetPhotography, #VirtualPhotography.
This weekend I went to a band trip with my 12 year old as a chaperone. It started with band performances, ended with them (and me) at an amusement park all day.
I met a bunch of Middle Schoolers who were friends / acquaintances with my daughter. They referred to me as "cool," "legendary," "icon," and one said I was "an icon on par with Madonna." But...but why?
I think about that day and all I can think is that I'm an adult, a parent who was willing to engage with these kids. I talked with them about music, their hobbies, anime, video games, whatever they wanted to talk about. I listened and interacted. Apparently, that's enough to make me an icon.
It feels very basic. But, the fact that just this level of interaction felt out of the norm for them from their friend's parents that it made them call me an icon, I feel that says more about the other adults in their lives than it does about my awesomeness.
So, I was tagged on Intagram by facetious_manga to talk about my "Bookstagram Backstory." I don't know if a Pixelfed equivalent exists. Bookselfed? Pixelbook? I don't know, I'll use both hashtags and share.
Regardless. Let's go, I guess.
When did I start on Bookstagram?
This account is and remains a personal account. While I post (often), about manga, this isn't exclusively about books or manga. My first post was in April 2016. Wow...that's a long time ago. I started getting more active in posting about books / manga, participating in things like "25 Days of Manga" in 2020. But it was early 2023 when I started posting a lot more manga pics / reviews.
What inspired your username?
I started on Twitter and needed a small handle. MD - I'm from Maryland, MRN - My initials. 83 - I'm old.
What was your 1st review?
The first "review" I posted was saying that the Free Comic Book Day 2016 Firefly comic was good. It got more detailed in my reviews after that.
Favorite part of Bookstagram?
The community. So may good folks to talk, discuss, and share.
Booksta made me buy?
My Lovesick Life as a 90s Otaku. I couldn't NOT get it, the reviews were just too much and I was not disappointed.
Aesthetic?
Middle aged nerdy, bearded Dad-core? I really have no idea.
