Hello everyone, I'm new on Mastodon and I'm excited to be on a social network that is chill, without algorithm and without ads as it feels refreshing, relaxing and the concept of Fediverse / open online is really cool
There are many things I love to talk about but I particularly enjoy talking about Nintendo, JRPGs and Anime.
Please boost for reach if this kind of stuff interests you. Will post more on this later.
Once upon a time, there was a cool emulator frontend called Retroarch. This emulator wasn't accessible until I and a few other gamers went to them and asked about adding accessibility. An amazing person known as BarryR made it happen. Now, if you turn on accessibility mode in settings, or pass the "--accessibility" (or something like that) flag on the command line, you get spoken menus, including the emulator's pause menu, good for saving states and such. Then, using PIL and other image processing Python utilities, running a server and hooking into Retroarch, the script allowed players to move around the map, battle, talk to NPC's, ETC. The only problem was, no one wanted to test it. The blind gaming community pretty much spoke, saying that we want new games. We want cool new, easy accessibility. So that's what we have no, follow the beacon or get sighted help in the case of diablo and such. It's sad, but meh. It's what we wanted I guess. No Zelda for us. So, this is about as far as he got:
To expand on what devinprater was saying: I am working on an accessibility pack/service for Final Fantasy 1 for the NES (this was what was shown in the latest RetroArch update). The idea is similar to how Pokemon Crystal access works, but it's using the RetroArch AI Service interface to do so.
Right now, the FF1 access service is mostly done, but I need more testers to try it out and give me feedback on how it's working. Right now, you can get up to the point where you get the ship, but there's no code to deal with how the ship moves, so that still needs to be done. Likewise with the airship later on.
The service works the latest version of RetroArch, on linux and mac, but not windows. This is due to how nvda reads out the text and until the next major update to nvda (which will have a feature to fix this), it'll have to wait. If you have those, I (or maybe devinprater) can help you set it up on mac/linux to test out. The package itself is available at: https://ztranslate.net/download/ff1_pac … zip?owner=
Hi all! I’m Bea, based in the U.K. PS5 and Switch gamer and long time final fantasy lover 🥰 Hope to make some new gamer friends here, especially ones who are currently also playing FFXVI 👀 #FinalFantasy#PS5#Switch#girlswhogame#ffxvi

The #magazine is complete!
This #zine is digital nostalgia; a collective of writers from the #fediverse striving to capture the subjective quality of #videogames with stories about life-and-stuff.
Hello again everyone, I'm Vel.
I just moved from akko.wtf to this self-hosted instance so if you wouldn't mind, please boost this post so that I can regain lost connections just in case the migration didn't move everyone over!
Hello! I'm Allison, aka Ammo (she/her). I'm a late level 40s-something gaming nerd, self-taught artist, and podcast co-host. Married, with cats.
I'm mostly into RPGs and play a lot of #FFXIV and Star Rail/Genshin. I adore and am constantly inspired by stuff like #FinalFantasy, #FireEmblem, #Persona and the Xenoseries, so expect to see lots of doodles along those lines. I'm also back on my #Trigun kick, so uh. Be warned, I guess.
Hello! I'm still very new so I apologize if my #introduction is all over the place.
I'm Melissa (35, she/her) but feel free to call me Mel or Lissa. I'm extremely socially awkward too.
I saw this being talked about on twitter, and I'm wanting to leave twitter... so I decided to check this out too.
I like to spend the majority of my time drinking coffee, reading books, manga, webtoons, watching anime, asian dramas, listening to kpop and playing video games.
I'm also learning korean, japanese, and how to crochet.
Currently playing #Nier: Replicant, #FinalFantasy IV, and #ShadowComplex. Enjoying Nier: Replicant so far. FFIV was the FF game of my childhood but never got around to finishing it so here we go. And Shadow Complex is a fun metroidvania.
Finally finished Final Fantasy XVI and loved it! The quests could've been a little less MMO-ish, but overall it's now my favorite FF game. #gaming#finalfantasy
I decided against #FinalFantasy X due to the slow gameplay on PAL PS2. I will go for FFIV instead, starting this evening. ⚔️
The GBA version seems to be very nice, especially because in the PAL version they cared for the bugs the US and initial JP release suffer from.
Will play on Game Boy Player for GameCube using GBi for a crisp picture. 👌
Will also take care of the good ending in Sonic Chaos and some N64, Mega Drive and PSP Loot during the upcoming days. 🧰
The acting is absolutely awful, but in a fun way, and the movie seems to have a decent budget for what it is. It's about as enjoyable as Land Shark was.
Fun fact, part of Liberi Fatali (the opening theme from Final Fantasy VIII) is used in the fight scene at 49:53. It's a little faint, but there's no way you could sneak that by me.
Welp. I’m sad to learn that FFXIV vocalist Susan Calloway is apparently transphobic. Gross. We saw her multiple times with Distant Worlds and she was a powerhouse singer.
It's the 23rd anniversary of Final Fantasy IX, one of the most well-written, heart-warming, deep and moving installments of the franchise, featuring some of the most memorable and complex Final Fantasy characters and exploring themes about life, death, and one's purpose in life.
